In plaats van in een restaurant te eten en te koken in een groot kookcentrum, waarom ontsnap je niet aan de toeristische gebieden en kom je naar waar de lokale bevolking woont? Hier kun je uit de eerste hand zien hoe de dagelijkse Hanoianen leven. Duyen woont op slechts een paar kilometer afstand van het stadscentrum, vlakbij de beroemde Long Bien-brug. Wat dit extra speciaal maakt, is dat chef-kok Duyen u uitnodigt in haar huis, niet zo ver van een beroemde Long Bien-brug en de lokale markt . Hier kun je een zeer huiselijke 'hands on' kookles ervaren, gefaciliteerd door chef-kok Duyen. Je leert hoe je een aantal van deze lokale lekkernijen kunt maken. We had an amazing experience with Ms Duyen. She is very knowledgeable and has all the insights one needs to understand the dynamics of Hanoi’s food markets. Further, her kind and entertaining way of showing us around made it a very pleasant tour. She made us feel as if we were part of the local community. The food stops were all very delicious and places that we would have never discovered otherwise. One of the best experiences we’ve ever had on a trip and would definitely do the cooking class with Ms Duyen if we had enough time. Lastly, getting up early was definitely worth it as one will not be able to experience the ”real deal” during the day - the market is most active from midnight until 6am in the morning.

Chef Duyen was warm, hospitable, and a very good teacher. It was a lovely activity and of course, very yummy food
We took this cooking class our first day in Vietnam. It was a great introduction to Vietnamese food and one of the highlights of our trip. Chef Duyen met us at our hotel, then we visited her local market, purchasing a few items for our dinner. So different from shopping at our local grocery store! Chef Duyen introduced us to some unfamiliar ingredients as we chopped and cooked. Who knew you could eat banana flowers. Afterwards we enjoyed a delicious meal with her and her family.
Our time with Chef Duyen was a highlight of our trip. We were able to see the real Hanoi as we shopped in her neighborhood market and cooked in her home. We made a large variety of Vietnamese dishes that I will definitely make when I return home. She made it fun and easy to learn. I would recommend this to anyone traveling to Hanoi!
The Chef came to our hotel and picked us up for a market tour before cooking in her beautiful kitchen. She explained about many foreign food items in the market. We then went to her home where she had prepped many items but still left cooking and chopping for us. The food was delicious and we enjoyed her stories of her Vietnam way of life. What a fun and delicious night. Highly recommend this in Hanoi.
