Dit is de enige wandeltocht door Chawton onder leiding van een Italiaan die al jaren in het dorp woont en is een perfecte dagtocht vanuit Londen om het echte Engelse platteland te ontdekken. Door deel te nemen aan de tour krijg je de kans om het dorp te leren kennen waar Jane Austen van hield en waar ze de laatste acht jaar van haar leven gelukkig doorbracht, maar ook om te ontdekken hoe het is om in een authentiek Engels plattelandsdorp te leven samen met de mensen die er wonen en over deze wondere wereld vertellen via haar blogs en video's die door duizenden mensen over de hele wereld worden gevolgd. Het is echt een tour voor iedereen die geschiedenis, cultuur en lifestyle perfect combineert.

Een perfecte dagtocht vanuit Londen om een authentiek Engels plattelandsdorp te ontdekken met unieke banden met een van 's werelds beroemdste schrijvers. Het huis waar Jane Austen acht jaar woonde met haar moeder, zus Cassandra en beste vriendin Martha Lloyd voor haar vroegtijdige dood op 18 juli 1817. De tour begint en eindigt voor het huis van Jane Austen, dat midden in het dorp Chawton ligt. In mijn inleiding zal ik wat algemene en contextuele informatie geven over dit belangrijke gebouw, maar voor een volledig begrip nodig ik je uit om het voor of aan het einde van mijn rondleiding te zien, want het is echt de moeite waard. Jane Austen's House is nu een uitstekend museum dat wordt beheerd door een stichting en algemeen wordt beschouwd als de beste plek ter wereld om je onder te dompelen in het leven van deze buitengewone schrijfster. Ik raad je aan om je bezoek van tevoren te boeken op de website van Jane Austen's House, want de toegang is beperkt en vanwege de viering van de tweehonderdvijftigste geboortedag van Jane Austen worden er in 2025 veel bezoekers van over de hele wereld verwacht.
Het landhuis dat werd gebouwd door Jane Austens broer Edward, samen met het hele landgoed Chawton en vele andere eigendommen in Hampshire en Kent. Jane Austen noemt Chawton House vaak in haar brieven en noemt het gekscherend 'The Great House'. Tijdens de rondleiding zullen we een stop maken voor de ingang van Chawton House waar ik wat algemene en contextuele informatie zal geven over dit belangrijke gebouw, hoewel ik je voor een volledig begrip uitnodig om het aan het einde van mijn rondleiding te bekijken, want het is echt de moeite waard. Het huis wordt beheerd door een stichting en is erg mooi van binnen. Het heeft een prachtig park van meerdere hectaren dat het hele jaar door gratis toegankelijk is voor het publiek. Chawton House is een prachtig voorbeeld van een typisch Engels landhuis met prachtige interieurs en veel connecties met Jane Austen. Vooraf reserveren is niet nodig - tickets kunnen ter plekke worden gekocht.
De prachtige Victoriaanse kerk die nu de parochiekerk van het dorp Chawton is, maar die in de tijd van Jane Austen de privékapel van de familie Knight was en deel uitmaakte van het landgoed Chawton House van haar broer Edward.

We organized a tour of the English countryside from Italy; what better guide than Laura? Her knowledge of Chawton, the areas, and English customs is truly excellent. Furthermore, Laura is kind and helpful and immediately becomes "one of the family" to walk around with. If you plan to take the tour, I recommend checking the entry times for the Jane Austen and Chawton House to ensure you have enough time to go through each and try on some historical clothing for photos as well before Laura’s wonderful tour.
Laura is a brilliant guide, researcher, presenter, and inspiring to listen to her research on Jane Austen. She was accommodating, sensitive, and impressive. I appreciated her attention to the smallest detail. For example, we were looking at the thatched roofs, and I asked for information about the creatures on the rooftops. She shared what she knew and researched. She is a humble and courteous guide. She let us add our ideas and extensions. Laura listened and supported. She gives award-worthy guides. This review is dedicated to Laura and for the information of all those interested in a tour about Jane Austen in the town of Chawton. It can happen in life to remember a particularly successful guided tour, well here we are beyond that. This was one of the best cultural experiences I have ever had. Laura, who lives in Chawton, did not just tell us stories connected to the life of JA, but she teleported us there between 1809 and 1817. The story of a person is better understood if one dwells on the personal relationships they have with family members, neighbors, friends and enemies, with people one would like to meet and those one tries to avoid instead. The story of a person is influenced by the physical context where it takes place, by the houses, the cottages, the places of reflection, the streets, the gardens, the waters, the paths that destiny leads you to cross and that today perhaps no longer appear as they did then. In Laura's passionate story, I, my wife, and our friends found all of this and Jane Austen ceased to be just a historical figure, but became someone close whom I would like to be friends with. I will be forever grateful to Laura for everything she gave us and I invite you to contact her to take a tour with her and Jane Austen!
