Charyn Canyon National Park is de bekendste natuurlijke bezienswaardigheid van Kazachstan. We zullen het bekende deel onder de toeristen bezoeken, genaamd Valley of Castles vanwege zijn ongewone vorm. Tijdens de tour observeer je 'the Martian'-uitzichten op de Charyn Canyon. De Castle Valley wordt vanwege de gelijkenis ook wel een ‘klein broertje’ van de Grand Canyon in Colorado genoemd, hoewel hij veel kleiner is. Op weg naar Charyn Canyon bezoeken we de wegmarkt in het dorp Baiseiyt.

De "Valley of Castles" van de Charyn Canyon is ruim 150 km lang en is volgens de meest conservatieve schattingen van wetenschappers ongeveer 12 miljoen jaar oud. In de oudheid was de unieke kloof de bodem van het Ili-meer, waar de rivier Charyn ons nu aan doet denken, die door de kloof stroomt. Het doet niet onder voor de Grand Canyon in de Verenigde Staten, omdat er steile kliffen zijn van 150-300 m hoog en 200 m diep. Tijdens het seizoen vormt het turbulente water een krachtige stroming, zelfs voor ervaren zwemmers levensbedreigend.

If the travel agency doesn’t send a pickup time, call them. I waited 2 hours then called. They’d forgotten. Trip itself was very good as was guide. We got back an hour later then I’d wanted due to late start.
Long time was planning to visit Charyn Canyon. This time we were lucky to go, since our guide was Aidyn. He has strong SUV Lexus 470. And Aidyn himself the very knowledgeable guide with a lot of joy travelling to.
Aydin is a super guide. knows a lot, positive. and also sings beautifully and plays Kazakh musical instruments

Despite a little misunderstanding regarding the date, the tour guide managed to quickly adapt to the situation and find a solution to our convenience. We visited the Canyon, the Moon Canyon and another lake within a single day, and it was amazing ! Not only were the places wonderful, but the drive itself to these places was very pleasant and peaceful. Our tour guide was careful, interesting, and answered our many questions.
