Extremely interesting. Larry not only tells the stories of the women. He also provides the cultural history of Charleston that created these strong personalities. The walk is at a comfortable pace. However, there is no place for sitting along the way for those with very weak legs or knees. It is a very memorable experience.
Charleston's Strong Women of the South History Tour

Beschrijving

It’s hard to imagine how much history there is in a small geographical area. Small! The women were a huge part of American history.
Larry was very knowledgeable and his stories were informative. He tended to ramble and the tour should have been 1 1/2 hours instead of the 2:15 it was. Be warned, his appearance is off-putting and if gigantic beards are not your thing, this is not the tour guide for your. He also smelled of alcohol, but he also repeatedly referred to Charleston as a drinking city so that’s on brand for the territory.
Touring with Larry was like being with a master storyteller, enacting the time period in which the story was set. Learned so much about the often untold or overlooked history of women in the USA. Amazing that in just a few blocks of the city, so many women overcame obstacles and hardships to gain their rightful recognition in society. An insightful and educational tour through a historical part of the city, and in the company of a master storyteller!
We took several tours this weekend. This was our favorite of them all. Thank you for spotlighting much of the unwritten history of our country and this city. We really enjoyed it.
Larry was a great storyteller. He had good eye contact and kept us well engaged. He made you listen closely and "catch" the hidden tips. I really learned a lot. I would recommend this tour.
Knowledgeable? YES! Interesting? YES! Thoughtful of customer needs? YES! Entertaining? YES! If you enjoy history coming alive this tour is for you. The pace is slower, pausing (in the shade) so patrons can absorb the stories told by a masterful, insightful story teller. Unfortunately we discovered him on our final day in Charleston because we would have taken more of his tours. He is knowledgeable on many subjects and shares in laymen’s terms.
We liked hearing the stories. I'd appreciate the opportunity to give feedback about our guide Larry.
By providing an honest guide. We were deceived from start to finish. Even when exposed, the so called guide did not own up to fraudulent behavior. After a late arrival, this person who used the name Larry told us he had suffered a bike accident with a golf cart and was in too much pain to walk. We sat for a visit and coffee. He told stories with some herstory content. He also said he needed to leave to visit a doctor and get his bike fixed. We tipped generously, having fallen for his plight. We saw him minutes later, easily riding his undamaged bike . For shame! Such a hustler. All thar brother and sister talk he put out, and how much pain he was in. Should be dismissed.
This is a little different of a tour--not so much text book history and architecture but focuses on some little known women that had big impacts in the city. Tour guide was high energy and super informative. I found it to be very interesting!
