Als je Belize bezoekt en geniet van grottenbaden, kajakken en Zip-lining, zijn de grotten van Nohoch Che'en bij Caves Branch zeker een van de tien beste dingen om te doen in Belize. Ons land heeft het grootste grottenstelsel in Midden-Amerika en de Caves Branch maakt deel uit van dit natuurwonder. In 2010 werd Nohoch Che'en of Caves Branch uitgeroepen tot een archeologisch reservaat van 15,5 hectare door de regering van Belize. Veel grotten bevinden zich in dit gebied, waaronder rotstekening, Pothunters, Satabe, voetafdrukken, de grot van St. Margret, aardewerkgrot en onder andere de grottenrotsschuilplaats.

Het archeologische reservaat Nohoch Che'en Caves Branch, ook bekend als de Cave Branch, is ongeveer een 19 mijl groot netwerk van grotten in de Cave Branch Valley. Het ligt ten westen op mijl 37 op de George Price Highway. Waar u een bocht naar links moet maken en nog 6 mijl verder moet gaan. De tour duurt ongeveer 3 uur, inclusief een wandeling van 45 minuten en een zachte dobber door de grotten. Met behulp van koplampen kun je scholen grotvissen, stalactieten en een aantal verbazingwekkende Maya-schilderijen hoog op de grotplafonds aanschouwen. The Caves Branch is een van de top 10 dingen om te doen in Belize. Bezoekers maken kennis met en ervaren een unieke kans op de geweldige geologische kenmerken van deze site en denken ook na over de aard van het pre-historische gebruik door mensen. Geologisch onderzoek geeft aan dat het enkele duizenden jaren duurde om de grotten te vormen. Archeoloog schat ook dat deze grotten door de Maya's voornamelijk werden gebruikt voor begrafenissen en rituelen, van de middelste pre-klassieke tot de post-klassieke periode. We had the pleasure of having Kalvin as guide. He shared his wealth of knowledge about his culture, flora and fauna. He made sure that we had great experience.
This was a great adventure navigating a cave system via floating tube. Our guide Edeoni made it extra fun and was very knowledgeable about the history of Belize and the cave system. Would recommend paying the $5 USD to get your tube at the cave entrance as this allowed us to enjoy the 20 minute walk and to better engage with the guide. Shout out to MayaWalks who are an excellent tour company and doing a great job in conservation and cultural preservation.
This is so much fun!!! I highly recommend it. The tubing was easy, the caves fascinating, and the set up really great (with changing rooms and lockers). You do need to be able to walk a bit, but once you are in the tube it's very relaxing.
Rudy is an amazing guide! He shared so much knowledge about the area and it’s history, and was super laid back. This was an incredible and memorable experience!

Went thru San Ignacio Shuttle Service. Our driver picked us up promptly and was a delight (Uedder). Sergio did our tour and they arranged for our tubes to be at the entrance so we didn't have to carry on the 1/2 hour informative walk. We swam in the beautiful water at the entrance and Sergio pulled us thru the cave and back to the start. We had a great lunch afterward and Uedder dropped us at the Belize water taxi. We are ages 65-73 and it was a perfect trip!
Our guide Rudy was very knowledgeable about the caves and the surrounding areas. He also made sure we got back to our hotel in time for our transfer to the water taxi. It was definitely hard not to fall asleep during this tour.
Rudy was awesome, very knowledgeable. At least an hour drive from San Ignacio and a 30 min hike to the start of the caves. Recommend water shoes, sunscreen, bug spray, change of clothes & snacks.
At the last minute, we validated this activity of Cave Tubing and we did not regret. It was a treat. Rudy was a great guide, showing us many insects, animals and birds on the way to the beginning of the water route. It was also very nice because of the few people at that time, we felt like we had the jungle and the river to ourselves. The passage through the cave was refreshing and quite confusing. Recommend without hesitation, especially with Rudy.
This was both an educational and enjoyable experience, thanks to our tour guide Rudy who was able to tell us all about Belize, its history, culture, geography, geology, biology (etc.). We went on a Friday, it was not at all crowded and everyone was friendly and in a good mood. Would love to do it again.
