Maak je klaar voor een authentiek avontuur in de beroemde marmeren grotten in Carrara. Spring op de Land Rover en verken de grotten met je vriendelijke lokale Gids. Kijk binnen in de enorme witte wonden die zich openen op de wilde hellingen van Carrara en leer hoe de steengroeven al meer dan 2000 jaar marmer leveren aan steden en dorpen in heel Italië. Hoor over het zweet van de mannen die het marmer ontgonnen dat werd gebruikt om het Pantheon en de Trajanuszuil in het oude Rome te bouwen, samen met vele sculpturen uit de Renaissance. Kom in contact met de mensen, plaatsen en machines van een oude traditie. Rijd naar verschillende actieve steengroeven, tot 1.000 meter boven zeeniveau en hoor hoe de edelsteen wordt gedolven. Ontmoetingspunt in het Stadio dei Marmi gebied in Carrara, ontmoeting met de Gids, en start van de tour. Vanaf hier beginnen we de beklimming tussen de wijngaarden van de groene Candia Hills (beroemd om het baren van een fijne en originele wijnproeverij) langs een route tussen de zee en de imposante Apuaanse Alpen die werkelijk spectaculair is. We gaan verder langs een op-en-neergaand onverhard stuk tot we weer de asfaltweg vinden, die direct naar het hart van de Carrara marmergroeves leidt.
Ontdek de kostbaarste schatten van Carrara: de witte marmergroeven. Aan boord van comfortabele en krachtige 4×4 jeeps neemt onze gids je mee over de toppen van de Apuaanse Alpen. Tot aan de marmeren bassins op een hoogte van 1.000 meter, om de magische plek te ontdekken waar Michelangelo het blok vond dat geboorte gaf aan zijn wereldberoemde Pieta.

Longer than expected. We started at half past one and were back by five. Therefore, plan for more time. There are free parking spaces at the meeting point.

If you don’t do this tour you’re missing out on an incredible opportunity to learn and see where the marble we all love comes from. Jeep ride is bumpy and steep at times- but fun! Such an amazing and interesting tour of how the marble quarry operates. Definitely recommend it. Tour guides are very knowledgeable.
