Cai Rang is de grootste drijvende markt van de Mekong-delta, waar mensen fruit en groenten kunnen kopen van de lokale productie. Een goed moment om een van de drijvende markten te bezoeken, is 's morgens vroeg, wanneer ze heel levendig en kleurrijk zijn.

Vertrek Ho Chi Minh City om 05.00 uur en ontspan op de 2,5 uur durende rit naar Can Tho in de Mekong Delta. Onderweg kunnen we stoppen bij een lokaal restaurant voor het ontbijt indien nodig, of genieten van het ontbijt direct op de Cai Rang Floating Market. Aangekomen rond 08:00 uur, verken de levendige Cai Rang Floating Market, de drukste in de regio. Bekijk de levendige handel terwijl verkopers verse producten rechtstreeks vanaf hun boten verkopen en de authentieke sfeer van het rivierleven ervaren. Vaar door de waterwegen om je volledig onder te dompelen in de drukte van de markt. Leer vervolgens hoe traditionele Vietnamese vermicellisoep wordt gemaakt voordat u een lokale fruittuin bezoekt. Geniet van vers seizoensfruit, en als u wilt, pluk en koop uw favorieten rechtstreeks uit de boomgaard.
Na het verkennen van de markt gaat u verder naar My Tho, waar u aan boord stapt van een traditionele boot voor een schilderachtige cruise langs de Mekong-rivier. Kom langs de Turtle, Dragon en Phoenix eilandjes voordat je aankomt op Unicorn Islet. Geniet onderweg van het weelderige groen en het bruisende rivierleven. Vervolg uw reis op een traditionele sampan, glijdend door smalle grachten in de schaduw van kokospalmen. Bezoek een bijenboerderij om te genieten van honingthee, proef verse tropische vruchten en luister naar traditionele dorpsmuziek. Na de lunch ontspant u op de rit terug naar Ho Chi Minh-stad, waar u rond 16.00 uur: 15.00 uur aankomt.

Rising early to the sounds of the Mekong Delta coming to life, we enjoyed breakfast before beginning a truly unforgettable journey along the waterways of the Mighty Mekong River. As our boat glided across sparkling streams, we watched the river awaken - fishermen preparing their nets, families starting their day, and the gentle hum of life unfolding along the endless waterway. Our first destination was the Cái Răng Floating Market, one of the largest and most vibrant in the region. Hundreds of boats crowded the river, each loaded with fruits, vegetables, fish and local produce. Sellers called out across the water to advertise their goods, creating a lively chorus that echoed through the morning air. The energy was infectious, offering a rare glimpse into the traditional trading culture that has sustained the Delta for generations. From the market, we continued deeper into the countryside and were given the opportunity to canoe through the orchards - a serene and intimate experience that became one of the highlights of the day. Paddling slowly beneath the canopy of fruit trees, we drifted along narrow waterways lined with lush greenery and quiet farmland. The stillness of the orchards contrasted beautifully with the bustle of the floating market, allowing us to appreciate the peaceful rhythm of rural life. It was a moment of calm, connection and authenticity that felt uniquely Mekong. We later visited tropical orchards overflowing with fresh fruit, where we were treated to a delicious selection of seasonal produce - sweet, fragrant and picked straight from the garden. The hospitality of the local farmers added warmth to the experience, making it both educational and deeply memorable. This morning on the Mekong was a perfect blend of culture, nature and tradition. It offered a deeper appreciation for the daily life of the Delta and remains one of the most meaningful experiences of our journey.
Our journey started in Ho Chi Minh City where we were met early by our guide Tommy, to board our transport, which was a beautifully air-conditioned van with very comfortable leather recliners. It made for a very comfortable journey both ways. First stop was Cai Rang floating market in Can Tho, this was very interesting and seems to be the last stages of a bygone era. Not really the place for tourist shopping very much for local wholesale buyers. Then off to the Mekong where we travelled in various boats to visit a number of islands, were very comfortable and felt safe the whole time. Finished with a visit to the local market/wet market before a two hour trip home. Very informative and enjoyable day! Highly recommended!

The experience on this trip was fantastic. The food was delicious, and our tour guide, Nick, went above and beyond in explaining the activities.
The trip was exceptionally well organized. We visited so many things and had such great experiences. If I go back to ho chi minh I would do this trip again. We were a bit unlucky with the guide because hi did not talk too much to us. But he made us feel comfortable and walked us flawlessly through all the stops that we had.
Couldn't recommend anything less...... :-( .... I booked this trip for my Brother and his wife... the market doesn't really exist any more (which they could have told us) so it was a complete waste of money $225 all inclusive trip ! and 6 hours travel time (3 hours there and 3 hours back).... on top of that they were asked to pay additional fees for vendors and other things... making the trip an absolute rip off in my opinion... very annoyed. Why not just tell people that since covid, the market doesn't exist anymore and recommend a trip that people might actually enjoy... poor advert for Vietnam and the company ! There is so much to see in Vietnam... DO NOT PAY FOR THIS

However, we would like to clarify that the Cai Rang Floating Market still operates today and remains one of the most well-known floating markets in the Mekong Delta. While it is true that the number of trading boats has decreased compared to many years ago due to changing lifestyles and road transportation, the market activity is still present and continues to attract visitors. Regarding additional purchases, any food or items from local vendors are completely optional and not required as part of the tour. We had the most AMAZING day with Theo today at the Mekong. From the floating market to the on-land market to the noodle making and candy making, sampam through a canal - eating every step of the way - the day was perfect. Theo educated us with his immense amount of knowledge regarding Vietnam history, fruit, animals, the Mekong, the plants, the people etc… He is a man of many talents with his intelligence and humor (and I suspect) an excellent singing voice. I heard a few notes in the car. A shout out to our driver too. They made a great team. I highly recommend this tour and Theo.
