Op weg naar de eerste stop zie je de ruïnes van het Romeinse theater van Cádiz, een van de grootste ooit gebouwd in het Romeinse Rijk. Het dateert uit 70 v.Chr. en kon ongeveer 10.000 gasten herbergen.
Na deze eerste historische stop gaan we naar de Central Market, waar de lokale bevolking hun boodschappen doet en verse ingrediënten koopt om thuis te koken. Hier kunt u genieten van pescaíto frito, een culinaire schat die de liefde van de regio voor verse zeevruchten laat zien. Dit gerecht bevat een heerlijk assortiment kleine visjes – vaak inclusief kleine witte aasjes en ansjovisjes – lichtjes geklopt en gebakken tot gouden perfectie. Het resultaat is een knapperige, verslavende traktatie vol oceaansmaak!
U passeert Torre Tavira, een 18e-eeuwse toren met panoramische uitzichtpunten en tentoonstellingsruimtes, op weg naar onze volgende halte: een van de meest traditionele bakkerijen en banketbakkerijen van de stad, opgericht in 1961. Hier ontdek je enkele zoete lekkernijen om mee te nemen en te genieten aan het einde van je tour – eindigend met een zoete noot!
Plaza de San Antonio is een van de meest centrale pleinen in de stad, vol politieke en patriottische betekenis. In feite werd hier in 1812 de Grondwet afgekondigd! In de buurt bezoekt u een tapasbar waar u tapas proeft zoals Papas aliñás : een heerlijke en verfrissende draai aan aardappelsalade die perfect de essentie van de Andalusische keuken weergeeft. Deze malse, gekookte aardappelen worden liefdevol vermengd met een levendige mix van olijfolie, azijn, verse peterselie en een beetje zout, waardoor een gerecht ontstaat dat zowel eenvoudig is als barst van de smaak. Vaak versierd met kappertjes of uien, papas aliñás zijn de perfecte aanvulling op zeevruchten of genoten als een lichte snack. Met hun heerlijke combinatie van texturen en pittige tonen bieden ze een voorproefje van de zonnige Middellandse Zee op je bord!
Plaza de Mina is een van de meest emblematische en groenste pleinen in de stad, dankzij de prachtige 18e- en 19e-eeuwse gebouwen en weelderige vegetatie - sommige bomen zijn meer dan 100 jaar oud! In de omgeving kunt u genieten van een scala aan lokale tapas in een restaurant met authentieke Andalusische smaken.
We komen terug in de buurt van het startpunt, het majestueuze stadhuis van Cadiz met zijn witte gevel en de omliggende monumenten, zoals de Arco del Populo of de San Juan de Dios-kerk. In een lokale winkel in de buurt sluiten we ons culinaire avontuur af met een voorproefje van sherry, het traditionele drankje uit Cadiz. Hef het glas op de Andalusische keuken!

We enjoyed our tour with Carla and learned a bit about Cadiz while sampling the local cuisine at a number of places. This a great introduction to Cadiz and we recommend it.

Such a brilliant tour, we can’t recommend this enough. We have visited Cádiz before but never knew of the history & hidden secrets behind the doors! Our guide Judy was amazing, very knowledgeable and a great laid back presentation. We had some incredible local food including ice cream - or was it gelato for dessert. Stopped at a local bar we would have walked past on our own and sampled excellent beer & wine. It’s a must do tour in Cádiz and great value for money. Thank you very much Judy. See you next year!
Unfortunately, we were not able to finish the tour because my husband was not feeling well. It was a very hot day. But that is not why I’m getting three stars. The format of this Tour was not a typical for a food tour. We walked for almost an hour before we had our first food stop and it was a historical walking tour, which was not what we were expecting. Most tours stop very shortly and have a food experience. there was quite a bit of walking in between the first and second stop. Before we got to the second stop my husband decided he did not want to continue., so I did not comment on the rest of the Tour, but we did not sign up for the historical walking tour, food with our focus.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. First of all, as professionals, we are always genuinely sorry when our guests are not able to fully enjoy their time with us. We hope your husband felt better quickly, Cádiz on a very hot day can certainly be challenging! That said, with a little touch of humor, we have to thank you as well. Even though you were unfortunately only able to experience the first two stops before leaving the tour, your review actually highlights something we are very proud of. Unlike a more standard food tour focused only on moving from one tasting to the next, our experience intentionally combines Cádiz’s food with its history, streets, stories and culture. For us, understanding what is on the plate is even more enjoyable when you also understand the city and the people behind it. We want our guests to leave not only with a full stomach, but with a little piece of Cádiz in their hearts (and perhaps a few historical facts in their pockets!). So, in a funny way, your three-star review may actually give future guests a very good reason to join us if they are looking for exactly that deeper experience. We sincerely hope you don’t mind our little touch of humor, and we wish you and your husband all the best. Fantastic tour, Carla brought us all around town to hear about the ancient history and tried local delicacies. Whenever I thought we had our last bite, there was another stop with more food than I expected. Highly recommend.
Julie was great! She knew so much history and also curated the tour based on what we wanted to eat/see. It was really hot and busy so we decided to relax and take it slow and Julie really helped us enjoy our time
We booked a Cadiz food tour and Estrella was our guide. She was fabulous! She walked us around the city and was very knowledgeable with the architecture, history and culture of Cadiz. We walked through the market where we had a delicious variety of sea food and wine, as well as many more delicious stops along the tour. Estrella was fun and personable- highly recommend!
