Uw Belfast Murals Tour begint in het Shankill Road-gebied van Belfast, dat is (protestants / Brits), waar uw Black Taxi Taxi-chauffeur een gedetailleerde geschiedenis van het gebied zal uitleggen. We beginnen in 1690, toen Willem van Oranje in Ierland arriveerde om koning Jacobus de 2e te verslaan in de beroemde Slag bij de Boyne. Er zal dan een uitleg komen over de recente problemen, die begonnen in 1969 en eindigden toen het vredesakkoord in 1998 werd ondertekend. U maakt een korte wandeling door het gebied, waar uw zwarte taxichauffeur uitleg geeft over de loyalistische muurschilderingen die Belfast in de omgeving heeft en wat ze vertegenwoordigen. U krijgt de mogelijkheid om uw eigen foto's van de Belfast muurschilderingen te nemen.
De vredesmuren werden ontworpen om de katholieke (nationalistische) en protestantse (Unionistische) bevolking in Belfast te scheiden. De eerste ‘vredeslinies’ werden opgericht, na het uitbreken van geweld in 1969 in Noord-Ierland. Ze werden gebouwd als tijdelijke structuren, bedoeld om slechts zes maanden mee te gaan. Vanwege hun effectieve aard werden ze hoger, langer en permanent gebouwd en zijn ze hier vandaag de dag nog steeds. De vredesmuren zijn versierd met kunst en boodschappen van hoop van toeristen.
U bezoekt de Clonard Martyrs Memorial tuin in Bombay Street in de zwarte taxi tour. Bombay Street in Belfast is waar volgens sommigen de moderne problemen begonnen toen katholieken uit hun huizen werden gebrand. Hier werd ook de Voorlopige IRA gevormd. Elk deel van deze tuin zal in detail worden uitgelegd en de redenen waarom het bestaat. De volgende stop op de tour is het Sinn Fein perskantoor, waar een van de meest iconische muurschilderingen van de Bobby Sands muurschildering op Falls Road staat. Je hoort over de geschiedenis van Bobby Sands en de Ierse hongerstaking in de Maze Prison in 1981.
De laatste stop is de Internationale Muur, waar u een verscheidenheid aan verschillende muurschilderingen in Belfast zult zien. De muurschilderingen hebben als algemeen thema ‘onderdrukking benadrukken’ – van de rassenrellen in Amerika in 1969 tot de actualiteit in Palestina.

Spent an excellent time with Brad today who gave us a first hand understanding of the background to the Troubles and the murals, memorials and walls around Belfast. It was a very moving tour and opened our eyes to the continued tensions. Thanks for a great tour.
Overall excellent tour!! From the moment of getting to the pick up point to the end of the tour everyone was friendly, polite and helpful. Met our driver ‘Tucker’ who was absolutely brilliant, had great ‘Craic’, was mega informative and super engaging. Could have listened to his knowledge and experiences all day long!! He was willing to answer questions and gave great answers, could tell he wasn’t biased in any way, giving views from both sides. He took us to a variety of the sites of the tour and mixed it up between driving tours and some places stopped to get out for a closer look. We did the tour in a very nice Mercedes van, lovely bit of air conditioning in there. Throughout the tour the whole group felt safe, completely and utterly engaged in what our tour guide was telling us. Can’t recommend this tour enough, really made my first visit to Belfast, thank you to Tucker!!
I think this tour is a must if you visit Belfast. We learned so much from our tour guide and were left deeply touched by the tour.

This tour was sensational! Our driver Danny covered The Troubles so thoroughly and gave you a very unbiased view of both sides. We saw so many important sites and spent plenty of time outside the cab experiencing the neighborhoods. Every visitor to Belfast should take one of these tours to see the lives of the citizens, not just the shopping and attractions. Unforgettable!

We had an incredible tour today, and our driver, Danny, was the absolute best. The subject matter, of course, was very heavy and tragic, but it was an incredible learning experience and we are very grateful for the opportunity to learn more about these tragic stories.

We booked online. Pick up was really easy as the cabs are next to Belfast City Hall. Our guide Stevie was superb. He was really informative, funny and put us at ease. He told the story from both sides. Would definitely recommend anyone doing this and learning about such an important part of history. The length of the tour was probably 1.5 hours which whizzed by. Would go on the tour again.
