Verken de stad Hiroshima met een tourbus en een comfortabele airconditioning. Stop bij het standbeeld van Gandhi terwijl je bezienswaardigheden bezoekt in de Atomic Bomb Dome. Het kasteel, met zijn opvallende architectuur en historische betekenis, is een bewijs van het rijke erfgoed van Japan. De indrukwekkende aanwezigheid ervan te midden van het stadsbeeld herinnert aan veerkracht en geschiedenis en biedt een vluchtig maar indrukwekkend beeld van het culturele erfgoed van Hiroshima. De bus stopt even om foto's te maken.
Toen Japan zich in 1992 aansloot bij de UNESCO Werelderfgoedconventie, begonnen mensen, waaronder overlevenden van een bomaanslag, hun stem te verheffen om de A-bomkoepel tot werelderfgoed te maken. Een nationale campagne om handtekeningen te verzamelen, uitgevoerd door de burgers van Hiroshima, was een succes en werd in juni 1995 aangewezen als nationale historische plek en in 1996 geregistreerd op de lijst van Werelderfgoedlocaties als een symbool dat oproept tot de afschaffing van kernwapens en voor wereldvrede.
Op 6 augustus 1949, met de inwerkingtreding van de Hiroshima Peace Memorial City Construction Law, werd besloten dat het hele Nakajima-district zou worden gewijd aan ‘vredesherdenkingsfaciliteiten’, en dat was het begin van wat nu Peace Memorial Park is. Het park beslaat ongeveer 122.100 vierkante meter. Het is ontworpen door Kenzo Tange, een professor aan de Universiteit van Tokio, en drie anderen, wier voorstel werd geselecteerd via een ontwerpwedstrijd die 145 voorstellen opleverde. Aan de zuidrand van het park staat een rij van drie gebouwen: het oostelijke gebouw, het hoofdgebouw van het Peace Memorial Museum en het International Conference Centre Hiroshima.

Het heiligdom bevindt zich in een kleine inham, terwijl de torii-poort in de Seto Inland Sea ligt. Paden leiden rond de inham en bezoekers wandelen er graag overheen terwijl ze uitkijken op de zee. Na zonsondergang worden het heiligdom en de toriipoort dagelijks verlicht tot 23.00 uur, wat een perfecte achtergrond biedt voor Ryokan-gasten om te genieten van een avondwandeling in yukata en geta-sandalen. Het is echter niet mogelijk om het heiligdom na zonsondergang te betreden. 1 uur is lunchtijd. De middenbewegingstijd bedraagt ongeveer 30 minuten.

The tour was in no way intended to take us to The Myajima island we were on the Cruise that departed at 4:30pm. She said that she was not intended to return on time. We should have been directed to another tour. Our hearts are broken! Very disappointed!

When you made your booking, you noted in the special requirements that you needed to return by 4:00 PM. Recognizing this time conflict, we sent you a message through the Viator system prior to the tour. We explicitly informed you that to meet your 4:00 PM deadline, you would need to leave the tour early after lunch and would unfortunately miss Miyajima. In that same message, we also directed you to our alternative tour specifically designed for cruise passengers. Since we did not receive a reply or a cancellation request from you, we proceeded with your booking as scheduled. We made every effort to warn you about the schedule and provide the appropriate alternative in advance. Thank you for your understanding.
Overall great experience. Koji was a very knowledgeable tour guide. More time in the peace museum would have been nice but tour covered all the sites and was efficiently managed.

Good experience overall. The length of visit was also good since it took most of the day but we still had time for some other things. Very punctual and easy to follow. Crowd size wasn’t too big; less than around 20 people but not uncomfortably small or one on one. Tour guide explained history of Hiroshima well and took us to all the main spots while giving us some free time to explore and shop as well. Used these portable speaker things so that you could hear what he was saying the whole time. Definitely enjoyed.
