Nadat je bent opgehaald bij je hotel, gaan we naar de Botanische Tuin, gesticht in 1808, de collectie bevat 9000 monsters van 1500 soorten. De JBRJ staat bekend om de uitbundigheid en het wetenschappelijke belang van zijn plantencollecties, evenals de schoonheid van zijn landschappen. De tweehonderdjarige geschiedenis komt tot uiting in de monumenten, gebouwen en kunstwerken. Te voet of met een elektrische kar kunnen bezoekers door de steegjes slenteren en planten uit verschillende delen van de wereld zien, de kassen (orchideeën, bromelia's, varens, insectenetende planten) en thematuinen en collecties, zoals de Japanse tuin en de geneeskrachtige planten.
Na een bezoek aan de Botanische Tuinen rijden we naar Parque Lage, afkomstig uit een oude suikermolen, het park maakt deel uit van het historische geheugen van de stad. Ontworpen in 1840 door de Engelse tuinarchitect John Tyndale, deelt de prachtige romantische tuin in Europese stijl de schijnwerpers met het inheemse Atlantische Woud. Ook opmerkelijk zijn de keizerlijke palmbomen, de kunstmatige meren en eilanden, naast de grotten verspreid over het park en de aquaria ingebed in de muren met verschillende vissen. In het hoofdgebouw van de ruimte, een herenhuis van de eeuw. XIX, exploiteert de School of Visual Arts van Parque Lage (EAV) en de Bistro Plage biedt een heerlijk ontbijt, lunch en diner met biologische producten die kunnen worden genoten naast de kunst- en muziekevenementen die het hele jaar door op het terrein plaatsvinden.

The gardens are not small. Be prepared to walk and learn some fascinating facts about the history of Brazil. She also helped us decide on lunch and dinner for the next few days from the perspective of a local. 10/10

This is actually the second experience I booked with Renata. I did the Christ the Redeemer with her last year and knew when I got back to Rio that I'd need more photos. I contacted her and asked her to do the Parque Lage and Botanical garden tour WITH the Selaron steps and she accommodated me. The photos are stunning! But more than that, she knew the history around each place and was great company. I feel super comfortable with her and will likely be doing more photo tours with her on future trips to Rio. Renata, the tout guide and photographer is wonderful. She related the historical and cultural significance of the Park Lagre and the Botanical Gardens in an entertaining way. Renata is phenomenal!!!!! She is extremely professional with an awesome sense of humour and is extremely knowledgeable! My husband and I enjoyed touring Parque Lage and the botanical gardens with her and she provided us with beautiful pictures after. It felt like a friend was taking you around Rio and making sure you have gorgeous pictures also. Highly recommend Renata!!!! The Botanical Gardens and Lage Park are a must for anyone visiting Rio. We were very impressed by the natural beauty existing in the heart of the city and will never forget the superb flora and astonishing wild life (monkeys, tucans, turtles and many more). We highly appreciate Renata's efforts to make the tour as pleasant as possible and value the comprehensive information she provided on the history of Brazil, Rio's landscapes and the interesting sites we visited: the Botanical Gardens and Lage Park.
