An authentic experience without a doubt, we ate at one of the communal tables after purchasing our lunch from one of the vendors inside the market. The choice is varied from meat based to the freshest seafood. Follow the locals for the best eating experiences.
Obviously this "market" targets the tourist......its worth a visit because it others quality products. We felt it needed more places in the middle of the building to eat, drink and rest your plates.
A very nice market, for the palate and eye, where you can also taste many products on site. Of course not for every day, as everything that is offered has its price.
We didn't actually do a guided tour in the end but decided we would go round at our leisure and take in the experience. From markets we have been to abroad in the past, this one felt as though it had been 'cleaned up' for the tourists, rather than having a 'genuine' market feel that you might find elsewhere, as it lacked the 'rough and ready' feel of what we would consider a 'genuine' market. Not to say it doesn't sell nice produce but we found the prices reflected the touristy appeal, so we bought our fruit from a supermarket after this and ate breakfast across the road from the side entrance at the Confeiteria do Bolhao, for instance, at probably half the prices! Worth a visit for the experience, I'd say.
No tour guide showed up. Contacted co.Was told guide had been injured tour was cancelled. No notice given
Dear Steven, sorry for being able to provide the tour. My apologies. We contacted as soon as we knew that the guide was an accident. I hope you can enjoy the tour next time in Porto.
Emma, our guide, taught all about the history of the Market. We enjoyed a glass of Wine while sampling fish, cheeses n meats. We the n when outside to a pastry shop where we finished up with desserts n coffee! A fine afternoon with a great guide!
Ema our tour guide did an excellent tour of the Bolhoa Market for us. We were very impressed with her knowledge of the history of the market and each of the food stalls. A wonderful experience and a place we would like to visit again. Highly recommended.
Loved it here! Live music, amazing food stalls. Wonderful gifts & food bought to take home. Highly recommended for food lovers with lots of live music & an amazing atmosphere
The Bolhao Markets are a great place to taste and enjoy the produce available in the city of Porto, and it helps if you have a ‘foodie’ as a guide to enable you to know what products are best, and which stall to buy from. Anna proved a lovely young companion, who inspired us to return here almost every day after her tour, to buy our lunch!
Really enjoyable market food tour with tastings along the way & learning about Porto’s history. Great family activity
