Constanta, bijna 2600 jaar geleden gesticht als kolonie, is de oudste geattesteerde stad in Roemenië, de grootste haven aan de Zwarte Zee (de derde grootste in Europa) en ook de vierde grootste stad in Roemenië met zijn 400.000 inwoners. Constanta werd door de Grieken gesticht als een haven aan de Zwarte Zeekust voor handel met binnenlandse mensen en heette Tomis (VIe c. BC). De stad werd later hernoemd naar Constantina, nicht van Constantijn de Grote (274-337). Het was nog steeds een bloeiende havenstad in de 10e en 11e eeuw, handelend met het Byzantijnse rijk en de stad Genua.

Alex was an outstanding guide. He was knowledgeable, humorous, and liked to talk. He took us to all of the great places in the city and the area. We had a very nice lunch near to seashore. Traffic into Bucharest was a bit heavy. i would highly recommend this tour.
This trip was the absolute highlight of my tourist adventures in Bucharest. The driver (Octavian) was fantastic & I learned so much about the area’s history and its present. It was a day very well spent with a guide who’s at the top of the list of many trip leaders I have experienced traveling over the years. I highly recommend this tour, for anyone seeking a day’s cultural, historical and scenic experience. You cannot go wrong.
