Ontdek samen met ons de meest actieve vulkaan ter wereld, Kilauea. We nemen je mee naar de massieve caldera waar Kilauea woont en vaak uitbarst met torenhoge geisers van lava. Je loopt door een oude lavabuis, voelt de hitte van vulkanische stoombronnen en ziet prachtige landschappen gevormd door vuur en tijd.
Een heerlijke lokale eiland doordrenkte lunch op dit eiland juweeltje van een restaurant is een must om te proberen!
Rijd over de kronkelende Old Māmalahoa Highway – een verborgen juweeltje omgeven door weelderige bossen aan de Hāmākua Coast. Omzoomd met torenhoge bomen en uitzicht op de oceaan, biedt deze rustige weg bij elke bocht een glimp van de natuurlijke schoonheid van Hawaï. We stoppen bij Kawainui Falls, een waterweg die uit een gigantische lavabuis tevoorschijn komt.
Rainbow Falls is een prachtige 80 - voet waterval gelegen in Hilo. Op zonnige ochtenden zie je misschien een regenboog in de mist van de watervallen die gevoed worden door de Wailuku-rivier. We delen de geschiedenis en legendes van de rivier en verkennen de enorme, fotowaardige banyanboom in de buurt.
De Hilo Farmer's Market is een levendige lokale Marketplace in Downtown Hilo bezocht door de lokale bevolking en bezoekers. Het is zeven dagen per week actief en staat bekend om zijn verse en verse producten, lokale lekkernijen en handgemaakte ambachten.
Het standbeeld van koning Kamehameha in Hilo eert het grote Hawaïaanse opperhoofd dat de Hawaïaanse eilanden verenigde. We maken hier een korte stop om te praten over de betekenis van zijn leven en erfenis in de Hawaïaanse geschiedenis.
Bekijk de grootste authentieke tuin in Edo-stijl buiten Japan. Liliuokalani Gardens is een serene parkweg met gebogen bruggen en vijvers, omringd door weelderig groen, standbeelden en torenhoge banyanbomen. Een geweldige plek om te ontspannen en foto's te nemen.
Richardson's Beach is een rustige plek aan zee die bekend staat om zijn zwarte zand en schilderachtige uitzicht op Hilo Bay en de Hāmākua Coast. Verken de vele getijdenpoelen waar groene zeeschildpadden zich vaak verzamelen en neem een snelle duik.

Big Mike, the owner of this company, is native to Hilo and he has made this adventure worth six stars. He starts your tour with a homemade leis you can bring home (not fresh flowers—-a keepsake!). What a great aloha. He not only will bring you to a lava tube, he will walk with you, narrating and showing you native plants and animals. So many people overheard him who weren’t on the tour and would often ask him questions and tag along while we walked, lol. He is the friendliest person and so patient. We stopped when native animals suddenly appeared. He went out of his way to help me find local coffee and tea. He has even more special treats he gives you on the trip that I’ll keep a surprise. Please consider giving your time to this man and his tour. His love of both his island and his company is apparent and you don’t feel like you’re just a customer… with Big Mike, I felt like family.
We absolutely had the most amazing day on the Big Island with our phenomenal tour guide Big Mike! We were greeted right inside the cruise terminal by Mike with crocheted, keepsake leis (made by his wife!) and then boarded his air conditioned, brand new 12 passenger van! Mike took us to all his favorite spots which made us feel like locals! We started in Volcano National Park, then drove through Hilo to the outskirts of town where we ate the most tasty lunch at a local eatery - big shoutout to LiLilani Kitchen! After lunch we did some shopping at the Farmers Market, drove through the rainforest and saw two breathtaking waterfalls before ending our tour at Richardson’s Black Sand Beach! All along the ride Big Mike shared information about the island’s history, geology, plant life and more! Big Mike is from Hilo and he truly knew all the things! I HIGHLY recommend Lehua Tours and Mike if you are ever in Hilo! This tour was worth every penny and more!!!
The tour was very pleasant and interesting, touching on volcanic areas, but also waterfalls in a lush forest and a fairytale sea. But the real added value was the tour guide: Big Mike was kind, professional (detailed explanations about everything we could see: he even went to look for a strand of volcanic silicon for us to show us not just volcanic lapilli!!) and always available. Combining an excellent tour guide with a unique landscape, the tour experience is extremely positive.
Big Mike is the BEST!!!! I highly recommend this tour, well worth the money! Mike was very knowledgeable about all the locations and love to hear all about his hometown culture!
The day was well planned and Mike was an expert guide. Mike provided a ton a great information regarding history and nature. He shared stories of his experiences growing up in Hilo which enriched the tour. Mike took time to get to know all of his guests and previewed every part of the tour so we knew exactly what to expect. The tour was very relaxed, informative, and fun! Highly recommend!
Uneventful tour of hilo volcanos. Hilo weather is tricky and rain didn’t help. Guide was able to pivot so we didn’t get too wet but sights were uneventful

This is a fantastic way to see all of the great spots in beautiful Hilo. Mike is friendly, fun, and very knowledgeable. This tour is slightly shorter than others which allows for more free time so I highly recommend.
My husband and I were on NCL Pride of America from June 13-20, 2026 but I booked most of our excursions off the ship. I did so much research, read all the reviews, and knew we wanted to do a small group tour rather than one of the run of the mill big tour companies. I liked the itinerary listed, the reasonable price and saw this tour included lunch so I booked this trip. OMG, we had such an amazing time. Mike’s tour business, Lehua Tours is newer. Big Mike is the owner and your tour guide. He is outgoing, positive and friendly. He absolutely loves what he does and it shows. So many thoughtful “extras” that you won’t get on other tours. Mike took us out to lunch at an amazing lunch spot off the beaten path. This is included in your tour price and you can choose anything off the menu. I am a picky eater and I had an amazing panini that was made to order, delicious! Mike is from Hawaii and shares so much history and fun stories. He has a great, comfortable van, a screen to show visuals to accompany his commentary. I loved his music playlist with classic and modern Hawaiian vibe music. I told Mike, he needs to get his playlist on Spotify! My husband and I had excursions every day of our cruise and this was our favorite!
