Dit is een privétour alleen voor jou en vanuit Mexico-stad, waarbij je 's nachts een vuurvliegjesreservaat midden in het bos bezoekt en waarneemt in dit seizoen 2024.

De ophaalservice zal om 16.00 uur op uw adres in Mexico-stad zijn. De transfer naar het heiligdom duurt ongeveer 2 uur. Dit is een van de meest populaire over vuurvliegjes. We zullen voor het donker in dit heiligdom aankomen. Tijdens het seizoen ontvangen alle heiligdommen veel mensen, vooral in het weekend. De mensen ter plaatse organiseren de groepen met lokale gidsen en als de nacht aanbreekt, begint elke groep aan de wandeling over een pad midden in het bos. De duur van deze waarnemingswandeling is ongeveer 1 uur en u kruist een reeds aangewezen en gemarkeerd pad waar alle mensen lopen. Het gebied in het bos is erg groot en vol met honderden vuurvliegjes. Deze ervaring is te danken aan de reproductie van deze kleine en verbazingwekkende dieren. Tijdens het wandelen verlichten de honderden vuurvliegjes de duisternis. Aan het einde van de wandeling krijgen we een zoet brood en koffie. De ervaring is afgelopen en de retourtransfer naar Mexico-stad duurt 2 uur. De aflevering vindt plaats op uw adres.

Overall it is a unique experience and I think it’s worth it if you love nature and wish to feel a connection to the environment. Some notes: it’s close to a three hour drive each way from central Mexico City to the fireflies sanctuary as traffic is thick. So just keep that in mind. Although the viewing season is in summer, it is also the rainy season. It will almost certainly rain when you go and it feels cold, it’s also late night, it’s not freezing but I highly recommend wearing some warmer layers. As it will rain a raincoat is a must, thankfully our driver stopped off in the town before the sanctuary so we could buy some long raincoats. Wellington rainboots are also a must. Finally the tour is operated by the sanctuary and it’s all in Spanish. Our guide/driver tried to translate some of it into English which I appreciate but I think we still miss out on some of the explanations, for example about the lifecycle of the fireflies, about the general ecosystem etc.
