YAAM (Young African Art Market) is een van de meest unieke culturele ruimtes van Berlijn, gelegen aan de oevers van de rivier de Spree. Bekend om zijn levendige mix van street art, live muziek, stedelijke strandsfeer en Afrikaanse en Caribische cultuur, organiseert YAAM het hele jaar door concerten, festivals, voedselmarkten en gemeenschapsevenementen. Het is een populaire ontmoetingsplaats voor zowel de lokale bevolking als bezoekers die op zoek zijn naar een alternatieve kant van Berlijn.

Het Baumhaus an der Mauer (“Boomhuis bij de Muur”) is een klein, met de hand gebouwd huis en tuin gemaakt door de Turks- Duitse inwoner Osman Kalin naast de voormalige Berlijnse Muur. Gebouwd op een strook land achtergelaten in een juridisch grijs gebied tijdens de Duitse deling, werd het een symbool van veerkracht, creativiteit en vreedzame co-existentie. Vandaag de dag is het Baumhaus een unieke herinnering aan de Berlijnse geschiedenis van de Koude Oorlog en de persoonlijke verhalen die zich langs de Muur ontvouwden.
Mariannenplatz is een historisch plein in de Berlijnse wijk Kreuzberg, vooral bekend als de site van het voormalige Bethanien Hospital, een opvallend 19e-eeuws gebouw dat nu dienst doet als cultureel en kunstcentrum. Het plein wordt al lang geassocieerd met sociaal activisme, alternatieve cultuur en de levendige artistieke scene van Berlijn. Mariannenplatz wordt omgeven door cafés, galeries en groene ruimtes en weerspiegelt de creatieve en rebelse geest die Kreuzberg decennialang heeft gevormd.
Muurschilderingen zijn een bepalend kenmerk van veel Berlijnse flatgebouwen, vooral in wijken als Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain en Neukölln. Gemaakt door lokale en internationale kunstenaars, transformeren deze grootschalige kunstwerken gewone gevels in levendige openbare galerijen. Ze verkennen vaak thema's als geschiedenis, identiteit, sociale verandering en gemeenschap, wat de reputatie van Berlijn weerspiegelt als een van Europa's toonaangevende centra voor street art en stedelijke creativiteit.
Lausitzer Platz is een charmant plein in het hart van Kreuzberg, gecentreerd rond de indrukwekkende Sint-Marthakerk. Ontwikkeld in het midden van de 19e eeuw als onderdeel van de uitbreiding van Berlijn, is het lange tijd een brandpunt van het buurtleven geweest. Tegenwoordig is het plein omgeven door cafés, restaurants en historische gebouwen, en biedt het een kijkje in Kreuzbergs mix van traditie, diversiteit en levendige lokale cultuur.

This tour is the best way to know the centre of Berlin and it history: 4 hours walking for the main historical places. The guide Thomas was amazing! He knows a lot about the city history and he is super didatic, having the ability to talk about all tragic facts that happen in a very soft and entertaining way. As a plus, his english is perfect, super easy to understand. Super reccomened! and if you have Welcome Card you can get a good discount!
We loved the walking tour with Martin. He knows so much about the city and its history. Not only that, he answered all the questions. Everything went so well, that we repeated with him the following day and did the holocaust camp tour. Both excursions were great!!

Jamie G was an excellent tour guide giving plenty of information and was not at all boring. He really knew his history and was pleasant to talk to and happy to answer questions. He even drew on the ground at one point with sidewalk chalk the history of Berlin and where the wall was constructed in relation to the city and country. I highly recommend this tour! 5 out of 5 for sure.

I have been with Insider Tour's walking tours before and found them excellent. This one was right up to standard with a very good guide - Orr. We really got to see parts of the city that would have taken months to discover on our own and heard about the political and social changes that have created this city. This tour was far more than just sightseeing. It was educational and enjoyable and shows why Berlin is the 'Capital of Cool'. If you are visiting Berlin do make a point of going on this tour. As a bonus, if you are interested in Street Art, as I am, you will see some of the best in the world.

Pip, our guide made this tour so enjoyable, it really didn’t feel like four hours long. She was knowledgable and sensitive about the subject matter, and even though parts of the tour were hard hitting, she managed to mostly make it upbeat and interesting. We came away wanting to learn more. I wish my history teachers in school had been more like Pip!
Even though it was not the Modern walking tour( no wall or Turkish market???) I have to say our guide Pip made this tour our favorite thing about our visit to Berlin. Very informative and interesting.
Our tour of Berlin walking began with disorganization and an over crowded tour. We went to the second location to try to split up but they were overbooked as well, so, we went on the walking tour With Barnaby....We made it halfway through the tour before the group bolted down a side street and lost us, we were taking pictures, granted we should have kept up with the group. Too many people on the tour and the guide just wanted to get it over with!
Had a wonderful guided tour of the main sites in Berlin. Our guide Phil was fun and informative. He answered all our questions and just made the whole experience amazing.
