Prachtige tempels van Belur en Halebidu zijn het hoogtepunt van de unieke "Hoysala" kunst en architectuur. De Belur- en Halebid-tempels geven een glimp van hindoeïstische tempelkunst in zijn glorieuze beste van de 16e eeuw. De tempels staan bekend om hun houtsnijwerk en prachtige architectuur. De Hoysala's verbeterden de vorige mega-imperiums van Calukyas, die bekend staan om het bouwen van extreem sierlijke tempels in veel delen van Karnataka, bekend om de sculpturen in de muren, plafonds, gebogen pilaren en nog veel meer. De Hoysala's volgden de Dravidische stijl, de vesara-stijl van architectuur en lieten toch hun sporen na door hun eigen unieke vorm van architectuur toe te voegen aan het tempelgebouw.

Vroeg in de ochtend wordt u opgehaald bij uw hotel in Bangalore en naar Belur gereden. De Chennakeshava-tempel in Belur werd gebouwd in opdracht van "Vishnuvadhana", de Hoysala-koning zelf, om een belangrijke militaire overwinning in 1117 na Christus tegen de Cholas in de strijd om Talakad te vieren. de koning wilde een buitengewone tempel en is gebouwd in een bouwstijl (Hoysala-stijl) die nieuw was in de regio. Het monument is uitzonderlijk groot en de decoratie is zeer uitbundig. De decoraties voor deze tempel gingen nog steeds door na de koning door zijn verschillende opvolgers over een periode van bijna 103 jaar.
De stad Halebidu stond toen bekend als Dwarasamudra (poort naar de zeeën). De hoogte van Hoysalan kunst en architectuur is geërfd in de tempel van Hoysaleshvara in Halebidu. De tempel is opgedragen aan Lord Shiva. Ook tegenover de tempel staat een groot standbeeld van Nandi. Het duurde meer dan tachtig jaar om gedeeltelijk te bouwen en bleef onvoltooid. De tempel is rijkelijk versierd met de meest ingewikkelde gravures. De muurinscripties omvatten eindeloze weergave van goden, mensen, dieren en afbeeldingen van oorlog, jacht, muziek en dans. Eindelijk rijden we terug naar Bangalore om deze daglange tour af te sluiten

Fascinating Heritage which can be explored in a day from Bangalore!. Comfortable pickup on time and then you are taken to the breathtaking temples of "Hoysala" era. The finely crafted temple pillars make you certainly wonder whether the temples are machine lathe cut!

My wife and I had an excellent experience working with Mr. Jai Singh. We were staying at a hotel not mentioned in his list of pick up sites, but Mr. Singh promptly responded to our request and had his driver pick us up at our hotel for a nominal charge. It's a pure historical place and paradise for art and sculpture loving people. Its the temple made by Hoyasala dinesty way back of more than one thousand years! Once Belur was their capital also. It is 20 km from Hassan city and 175 km from Bangalore. KSRTC bus services to cover all these places(including Sravanbelagola as Jain temple) are there in a day trip.
