Bezoek Vergina (of Aige in het Oudgrieks), dat ligt op slechts 82 km afstand van Thessaloniki, in Centraal-Macedonië. Vergina is Unesco Werelderfgoed, waar u onder andere de kans krijgt om het mooi bewaarde graf van koning Philippus II (vader van Alexander de Grote) en het graf van Alexander IV (zoon van Alexander de Grote) te zien. Daarna bezoekt u de stad Veria, wandelt u door de smalle bewaard gebleven quorters, ziet u het altaar van apostel Paulus, bezoekt u de Orta-moskee en bekijkt u de oudste synagoge van de Balkan. Ook vrije tijd voor lunch in een van de vele tavernes van Veria en terugkeer naar Thessaloniki in de middag.

De archeologische site van Aige (Vergina) is de thuisbasis van de koninklijke graven van Macedonische koningen, waaronder die van koning Philippus II, vader van Alexander de Grote. Bezoekers kunnen de indrukwekkende tumulus verkennen die deze oude graven bedekt, waar levendige fresco's, sculpturen en rijke begrafenisartefacten de grandeur van de Macedonische koninklijke familie onthullen. U ziet ook de overblijfselen van het oude paleis, met mozaïeken en de fundamenten van monumentale gebouwen, die een kijkje bieden in de voormalige pracht van de stad.
Het nieuwe museum in Vergina toont opmerkelijke ontdekkingen, waaronder de gouden larnax en andere koninklijke schatten. Tentoonstellingen richten zich op het tijdperk van Philippus II en Alexander de Grote en bieden een diepe duik in de Macedonische geschiedenis. Met speciale tentoonstellingen en doorlopend onderzoek kunnen bezoekers bij elk bezoek nieuwe bevindingen onderzoeken en nieuwe inzichten opdoen.
De Joodse Synagoge in Veroia, Griekenland, is een prachtig bewaard gebleven bezienswaardigheid in de historische Joodse wijk. Gebouwd in de 19e eeuw, staat het als een bewijs van de ooit bloeiende Sefardische Joodse gemeenschap. De synagoge beschikt over traditionele architectuur, waaronder een houten ark en een vrouwenbalkon. Hoewel het niet langer regelmatig wordt gebruikt, blijft het een belangrijke culturele en historische site. Bezoek in de synagoge is op aanvraag.
We bezoeken de stad Veria, slenteren door de smalle bewaarde quorters, zien het altaar van apostel Paulus. Optioneel heb je de kans om hier te lunchen.

Johannes (John) and Gina were wonderful guides who took us to the Royal Tombs and then we walked up the hill to see the ruins of the Palace of Phillip II (Father of Alexander the Great). It was 20€ each to see both the tombs and the museum, so we went to both - 45 min each. The guides told us so much history along the way. They also walked with us in Veria, showing us the major sights of Paul (we saw Paul's alter, the Jewish synagogue, the mosque/museum, and the newer Paul church - under renovation). We also had time to grab a bite to eat and souvenirs. It was a great day. Lots of walking too.

The tip was great!! We had a great time seeing the tombs in Vergina. It was really cool to see slights of the apostle Paul in Veria. My only complaint is that we could not find our guides after the museum but we did find them back in the car. Definitely recommend.

Vergina was amazing – the Macedonian royal tombs and museum are a must-see, so atmospheric and full of history. Veria city was quieter but charming, with nice stops like the Apostle Paul’s Tribune and a chance to enjoy coffee in a local square. Also, Pella was fascinating – walking through the ancient city ruins and seeing the beautiful mosaics really made the history of Alexander the Great’s hometown come alive. Perfect mix of history and relaxation!

Almost tailor-made hike. The museum opened at 12.00 so we agreed to do the route in reverse. Very interesting both museums visited in particular the royal tombs. Very good our guide. Knowing also the Italian we could easily communicate with him despite the tour being in English. They picked us up and brought us back in front of the passenger terminal ...

This was an excellent choice for us. Good web site, prompt responses and flexible options. We added one way transfer to Meteora instead of a round trip back to Thessaloniki. It was a full day - Vergina and a stop for lunch at the base of Mt Olympus. Then we continued on to Kastriki to our next hotel. Dimitris our guide/driver was really excellent. We had interesting and entertaining conversations the entire way - which is pretty amazing given the length of the day. We definitely recommend booking with this company. And don't miss the Royal tombs at Vergina. It was one of our favorites on a four week trip full of great sights.

The Royal Tombs at Vergina are truly spectacular and well worth your time and money to visit. The new Aigio Museum is also very interesting, though I would have liked more information on the individual artifacts on display. This tour was a convenient and well-organized experience—everything was handled very professionally. The van was clean and comfortable and our guide Stella was delightful. Highly recommended experience for anyone visiting Thessaloniki.
