Excellent guide. She was so kind to our family and made huge efforts to make sure we got pictures of the animals we wanted to see. Super friendly, super enthusiastic, and you can tell she loves her job. -The Wilsons
We had a great time! Jovanna was a great guide and very knowledgable. We came for the Macaws and we were treated to so many sightings! All in all a great experience!
Our guide Ronald was great! friendly, helpful -- brought us water and took our trash. However, the walk was pretty "meh". The path is very near the road so there is a lot of noise from that. We didn't see much of anything at all, and there were tons of mosquitos. We opted out of the second half of the walk. Ronald then took us to see the macaws by the water which we very much appreciated!
Boy, did we luck out in our tour guide and our timing! We went at 11, so we weren't expecting to see as much as if we'd gone earlier in the morning (when animals tend to be more active), but we saw so many animals-- a male coati, poison dart frogs, two or three Jesus Christ lizards (including one that ran on the water while we were watching), two kinds of bats (including a mother and baby ghost bat), a toucan, spider and capuchin monkeys, a mealy parrot, four marbled quail, several trogons, interesting insects, and about a million other birds (too many for me to remember the names). Our guide, Geovanna, was not only very good at spotting and answering questions about animals, but she was also incredibly personable and ridiculously generous with her time. She was great at capturing photos and videos for us (and gave us tips on how to do it ourselves!), she was persistent in trying to get us the best and longest looks she could at various animals, and she answered all of our many, many questions knowledgeably and kindly. We were both so impressed by her commitment and enthusiasm-- you can tell that she loves her job and her country and that she truly has a passion for sharing Costa Rican wildlife with visitors to the park. At the start of the tour she asked us what animals we were most interested in seeing, and when we said macaws, she immediately said she had a Plan A and a Plan B for finding them. And, sure enough, when Plan A didn't work, she executed Plan B (which required extra time and effort from her) so that we got to see these magnificent birds up close and in the wild! She also gave us lunch and driving recommendations that we followed and appreciated very much. Seriously, we can't sing her praises highly enough. Never met a guide who went so far above and beyond. She is a gem, and this tour (which we booked last-minute during the rainy season, on a whim, and which we were the only participants for) was outstanding. Definitely encourage you to book it-- we wouldn't have seen anywhere near as much wildlife without Geovanna, nor would we have learned as much as we did about these fascinating animals and habitats!
This was an amazing tour through the park. Our guide Geovanna made it such a great experience. I promise you she could find critters that no one could ever see. Her enthusiasm for nature was contagious. We learned so much and saw so many different species.
Amazing guided hike with Jovanna! She started out letting us know it was “our hike”, so she would adjust to anything we needed/wanted along the way, which was a great consideration with kiddos in tow. We even forgot bug spray, which she covered for us thankfully! Jovanna is VERY knowledgeable about the terrain and wildlife in the area, and was super quick to get the tri-pod set up every time for views and pictures. We saw sooooooo much wildlife, including 2 kinds of monkeys, various birds, and tons of interesting insects and frogs. We were also lucky enough to see a Bridal Veil Mushroom in full bloom, which only happens one day each year! Our tour actually went almost twice as long as planned because we kept going to see more and more wildlife, no concerns from Jovanna at all as she was eager to show us as much as we wanted! She even offered to take us to a Macaw area after the hike, but it was raining so we called it a day. It really was one of the best guided hikes I’ve ever done and we would have missed soooooo much wildlife without her guidance. Thanks again to Jovanna for making this hike and national park one we will always remember!
The tour was wonderful. Our guide was expert in finding and photographing the abundant wildlife, and also very informative. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Best tour during our time in Costa Ricca so far! Jovanna was amazing at spotting the animals so we were able to see everything - white faced monkey and her baby, howler monkeys, toucan, macaw and a porcupine sleeping on a tree. Those were just the highlights. Thank you for making a special memory for our time here!
Johanna was incredible. This park is much less crowded than Manuel Antonio and much more beautiful and serene. Johanna’s eye for all the hiding animals for the jungle was INCREDIBLE. Her 16 years experience and knowledge shined like none other on the trail. Highly recommend Johanna and this park.
Very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful guide! Daniela knew all the spots to show us the wildlife including rare endemic birds, poison dart frogs, ghost bats, a nesting bird, and many more. She gave us options on routes and lengths, and even extended our tour outside of the park so that we could see nesting scarlet macaws and dozens of them socializing on almond trees! Macaws mainly use the park at night, so if you’re not there at dawn or dusk, you won’t see them in the park. I would highly recommend Daniela. She went above and beyond!
