We stoppen om op eigen kosten heerlijke koffie te halen en een comfortabele pauze voordat we onze reis naar de Northland-regio voortzetten.
We bezoeken een van de belangrijkste toeristische attracties in Kawakawa, het kleurrijke openbare toilet ontworpen door de Oostenrijkse kunstenaar Friedensreich Hundertwasser. In de jaren zeventig bezocht hij Nieuw-Zeeland voor het eerst voor een tentoonstelling van zijn werk. Hij besloot van het land zijn tweede thuis te maken en kocht onroerend goed aan de Waikare-inham, ten oosten van Kawakawa. In 1998 transformeerde hij met de hulp van de gemeenschap de openbare toiletten van de stad in een kunstwerk.

- Een volledig commentaar wordt geleverd door uw schipper aan boord van de cruise. Er is een beperkt aantal meertalige headsets beschikbaar in het Duits, Frans en Mandarijn Chinees.
- Een deel van uw reissom draagt bij aan onderzoek en behoud van zeezoogdieren.
- U kunt lunch of diner kopen, afhankelijk van de vaartijd, in het café in Otehei Bay.
- Snacks en drankjes zijn ook te koop aan boord van het schip.
- Interactie met gewone dolfijnen en tuimelaars, orka's, walvissen en andere zeezoogdieren is onderworpen aan de DOC-voorschriften.
- U bent van harte welkom om uw eigen eten mee te nemen. Er zijn ook warme en koude gerechten te koop aan boord.
- Breng een camera of een telefoon met cameramogelijkheden mee, want dit is de perfecte plek om geweldige foto's van ervaringen op te doen.
- Makkelijk en een goede conditie vereist.
- Je moet trappen kunnen beklimmen en afdalen en op onverhard of oneffen terrein kunnen lopen.
- De site is toegankelijk voor rolstoelgebruikers, maar wees alsjeblieft voorbereid op oneffen oppervlakken, wat moeilijk kan zijn voor mensen met beperkte mobiliteit en rolstoelgebruikers.

Very long day but well worth it! Seas were a little choppy on the boat, so if you are prone to sea sickness or aren’t sure take motion sickness meds before or use a patch. Our driver guide Karthik was amazing and knows so much about the country and history! I highly recommend this tour!!!!!

What a day ! Even though it was long, it is well worth it. If you read the description of the tour, it is what you get (except we didn't see whales !! but that's ok). The communication of change of pick up address was not a problem. Karthik was a great tour guide on our drive up to the Bay of Islands, his knowledge of Auckland and surrounding area was exceptional and his interest in the science was really interesting and was always checking that we were ok. The transport car (van) was very comfortable - enough so, I may of dozed off !!! Karthik made sure we got on our 3hr + boat cruise/tour and seeing the dolphin's at play was definitely a highlight. All in all a great day and this is a family run business and good to support the little guys instead of the big commercial companies. Highly recommend if you have limited time in Auckland and want to see the Bay of Islands.

The driver who took us was very informative and told us a lot about NZ and the culture, aboriginal traditions and the earthquakes. We had comfort stops and the bakery we stopped at was perfect.
