In 1782 verplaatste koning Rama I de hoofdstad van Thonburi over de rivier naar Bangkok en bouwde het Grand Palace grenzend aan Wat Pho. In 1788 gaf hij opdracht tot de bouw en renovatie van de oude tempelplaats Wat Pho, die inmiddels vervallen was. De site, die moerassig en ongelijk was, werd leeggemaakt en ingevuld voordat de bouw begon. Tijdens de bouw van Rama startte ik ook een project om Boeddhabeelden te verwijderen uit verlaten tempels in Ayutthaya, Sukhothai, evenals andere locaties in Thailand, en veel van deze Boeddhabeelden werden bewaard in Wat Pho, waaronder de overblijfselen van een enorm Boeddhabeeld uit Wat Phra Si Sanphet van Ayuthaya werd vernietigd door de Birmezen in 1767 en deze werden opgenomen in een chedi in het complex. De verbouwing duurde meer dan zeven jaar om te voltooien. In 1801, twaalf jaar nadat het werk begon, werd het nieuwe tempelcomplex omgedoopt in Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangklavas.
Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan is een boeddhistische tempel (wat) in het Yai-district van Bangkok in Bangkok, Thailand, op de Thonburi-westoever van de Chao Phraya-rivier. De tempel ontleent zijn naam aan de hindoe-god Aruna, vaak verpersoonlijkt als de straling van de rijzende zon. Wat Arun is een van de bekendste bezienswaardigheden van Thailand. Het eerste licht van de ochtend reflecteert met parelwitte irisering van het oppervlak van de tempel. Hoewel de tempel al sinds de zeventiende eeuw bestond, werd de kenmerkende prang (torenspitsen) gebouwd in de vroege negentiende eeuw tijdens het bewind van koning Rama II.

Great tours and great guide A must-do
Everything was excellent. Our guide, Mina is great
This was a great way to explore the temples. Our guide (Sunny) was really good and kept things moving at a good pace. Our tour included a tuk tuk ride and boat ride together with walking. Just to note that this is a reasonably long tour (5 ish hours) and does not include a food stop). Having said that, a number of people, that had not read the information sent, did request a stop for lunch and our guide accommodated this (with the buy in of all participants) and took us to a local eatery where the food was very good and very inexpensive. We particularly liked Wat Pho (the reclining Buddha). Our guide was also very good at making sure everyone was able to get back to their hotels. Just to note, this tour does not end where it starts but the end location is right at a taxi station, tuk tuk station and the underground/metro. We would highly recommend this tour.

It was just the two of us on a personal tour. I was also very familiar with Japanese history and it was easy to understand the explanation while comparing with Thailand
