Onze vriendelijke, goed ervaren Engelssprekende gids die daar is geboren en opstaat en nog steeds in Banganga Residence woont. Een bezoek aan Banganga Tank biedt een uitzonderlijke kans om jezelf onder te dompelen in de geschiedenis van de stad, en te leren hoe het evolueerde van zeven dunbevolkte eilanden tot de bruisende metropool die het vandaag is. Banganga Walkeshwar Walk wordt geflankeerd door een smalle straat met tempels, huizen en dharamsala's (religieuze rusthuizen). Het vormt de route van de heilige parikrama, een wandeling rond de tank te voet, waarvan hindoes geloven dat het enorme zuiverende voordelen heeft. Er is ook een dhobi ghat, de beroemdste openluchtwasserij van Mumbai.

1. De oudste continu bewoonde plek in Mumbai 2. Totaal 18 tempels omringd: maak een wandeling naar alle tempels en Guide zal je hun diepe verhalen vertellen. 3. Herdenkingsstenen: deze pallia's zijn gedenkstenen van dode krijgers die worden aanbeden door Gujaratis. 4. Banganga Tank en Walkeshwar Temple: De trappen van Banganga Tank dienen vele doelen: een speelruimte voor kinderen, een sociale hub voor bewoners, een ruimte om te drogen en een plek om puja (aanbidding) te verrichten. 5. Deepstambhas: (lichtzuilen) markeren de ingang van Banganga Tank, evenals belangrijke tempels in het gebied. Verbazingwekkend, er wordt gezegd dat er onder elk een heilige wordt begraven!
6. Straat rond Banganga Tank: Het wordt geflankeerd door een smalle straat met tempels, huizen en dharamsala's (religieuze rusthuizen). 7. Oprukkende migrantengemeenschappen: het gebied is de thuisbasis van sloppenwijkbewoners die het de afgelopen decennia hebben bezet. 8. Dhobi Ghat: de op een na grootste wasserette in Mumbai, waar u een wasserette in de open lucht zult zien die door de Britten is gebouwd.

I attended the Banganga walk organized by Khaki tours on 10th July. It was a great experience visiting a place in Mumbai where it seems like time has stood still. The surroundings around the Banganga tank haven't changed much since the last 100-150 yrs. It still resembled the pictures which were taken a century ago. Even the lifestyle of people in that area hasn't caught up with the hustle and bustle of rest of the Modern Mumbai. You could feel a slow and calm pace that's inherent in this area. Overall an enriching experience.
