Het is een van de meest bizarre technische hoogstandjes om de rang van een treinlijn te krijgen. De huidige twee spiraalvormige tunnels waar de spoorlijn twee spiralen vormt, die elkaar twee keer kruisen, bijna een acht vormend, voordat ze in de juiste richting de berg af gaan.
Takakkaw Falls is een waterval in Yoho National Park, in de buurt van Field, British Columbia in Canada. De watervallen hebben een totale hoogte van 373 meter (1224 voet), waarmee ze de op een na hoogste waterval van Canada zijn. De belangrijkste val van de waterval heeft een hoogte van 254 meter (833 voet) "Takakkaw" vertaalt naar "prachtig" in Cree. De watervallen worden gevoed door het smeltwater van de Daly-gletsjer, die deel uitmaakt van het Waputik-ijsveld. De gletsjer houdt het volume van de watervallen hoog tijdens de warme zomermaanden, en ze zijn een toeristische attractie, vooral in het late voorjaar nadat de zware sneeuw is gesmolten, wanneer de watervallen in topconditie zijn.bron: wikipedia
Gebeeldhouwd door de eroderende krachten van stromend water over wat ooit een waterval was, is de Natural Bridge een krachtige herinnering aan hoeveel invloed water heeft op het vormgeven van het landschap.
Genoemd door vroege berggidsen vanwege zijn buitengewone kleur. Ooit bedekten gletsjers dit gebied en terwijl het ijs zich terugtrekt, nemen hun smeltwateren een verscheidenheid aan sedimentair materiaal op en voeren het stroomafwaarts naar depressies omringd door gletsjerpuin, waardoor gletsjerwatermeren zoals deze ontstaan. De groene of turkooizen kleur komt van het fijngemalen steenmeel dat in het water zweeft: het verstrooiende effect dat de zwevende deeltjes op het licht hebben, gecombineerd met de weerkaatsing van de blauwe lucht, geeft het water zijn opmerkelijke blauwgroene kleur. bron: geografische naam BC
Lake Louise is wereldberoemd om zijn turquoise meren, de Victoria-gletsjer, stijgende bergachtergrond, vorstelijk hotel en ongelooflijke wandel- en skimogelijkheden. Omringd door een leven lang adembenemende bezienswaardigheden en avonturen, is Lake Louise een zeldzame plek die je moet ervaren om te geloven.
Het water heeft de meest verbazingwekkende kleur, een levendige tint turkoois die in de zomer van intensiteit verandert als de gletsjers smelten. Moraine Lake, gelegen in de ruige Valley of the Ten Peaks, wordt omringd door bergen, watervallen en rotspartijen, waardoor een tafereel ontstaat dat zo adembenemend is dat het bijna onwerkelijk lijkt. Ga aan het meer zitten en absorbeer de bezienswaardigheden en zuivere berglucht, of verken verder door te kanoën en wandelen. Het is een iconisch adembenemende plek die zeker een blijvende indruk zal achterlaten. De weg naar Moraine Lake is in de winter afgesloten vanwege hevige sneeuwval en hoog lawinegevaar. Afhankelijk van de omstandigheden gaat de weg ergens tussen de derde week van mei en de eerste week van juni open en sluit in oktober na het Canadese Thanksgiving-weekend (de tweede maandag in oktober).

Visiting Banff had been on our wish list for a long time, and last week, we finally made it happen. My wife and I chose a private tour with ABestX-Canada via Viator—an excellent decision. Our tour guide, Abdul Haq, had an impressive knowledge of the area. At first, we were worried because the weather forecast predicted rain over Banff all day. But Abdul was fantastic—he planned our first stop at Moraine Lake early in the morning when it was still quiet, and the sunlight beautifully illuminated the snow-capped peaks and the vibrant blue of the lake. Abdul also showed us the best spots to capture photos! At Lake Louise, we needed to find good vantage points since it gets quite busy by midday. It makes sense—Lake Louise, with its wide, emerald-green waters, is so iconic. No regrets at all. We also enjoyed an early lunch at the Fairmont Lake Louise, which was a treat. From Lake Louise, Abdul took us on to Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park, crossing the border between Alberta and British Columbia. The scenery along the way was stunning and reminded us of traveling through New Zealand’s South Island. We loved the peaceful atmosphere of Emerald Lake—it would have been wonderful to spend a night or two at one of the lodges by the shore, but unfortunately, we didn’t have much time. On the way back to the little town of Banff, light rain began to fall, yet we still enjoyed the beautiful views. If you think the best scenery in the sub-tropics is in New Zealand’s South Island, Switzerland, or Norway—you really must visit Banff, Alberta. Just imagine the diversity of landscapes: the towering peaks of the Canadian Rockies and the stunning blue and green lakes. The tour was very good and our guide/driver, Ali, was very knowledgeable and interesting. The only criticism about the tour was that it was difficult to understand him because there was no microphone or device that helped us to hear what he was saying especially for those who were sitting in the back rows of the van.

I truly don’t know what to even say here. Augusto was our guide for my sister and myself. He is PHENOMENAL!!! We learned so much about the culture and climate of Canada in addition to our destinations he took us to. He took time and effort to get to know us and tell us all about each area we visited as well as everything along the way. We felt like we made a lifelong friend with Augusto. The sites we saw were epic and not having to be concerned about parking, traffic, missing a turn, or not knowing where to go without backtracking was so nice. We just rode along and took in the scenery. Moraine Lake is beautiful beyond words and we’re so glad Augusto recommended climbing the rockslide for the view. This tour is expensive and we have already said that when we return we will book it again and request Augusto if we can because we loved it that much.
