Axum is het centrum en de bakermat van de Ethiopische beschaving, niet alleen dat Axum de meest heilige stad in Ethiopië is en de laatste rustplaats van de Ark van het Verbond. daarnaast zijn onze gidsen eenmaal professioneel en opgeleid. Als je naar de locaties gaat, zul je versteld staan dat de Axumite-mensen geweldig en machtig waren. Tussendoor bieden we een koffieceremonie rond het museum aan voor een verfrissing.

De tour omvat het belangrijkste Stelea-park. Deze beroemde granieten obelisken zijn overblijfselen uit deze tijd en hebben de status van UNESCO-werelderfgoed verworven. De hoogste, de Grote stelea, is gevallen en in zes massieve stukken gebroken, maar toen hij stond was hij 33 meter hoog en woog hij ongeveer vijfhonderdtwintig ton en andere opmerkelijke voorchristelijke monumenten.
De Ezana-inscriptie bevindt zich 1 km ten noorden van het obeliskpark en deze plek werd in 1981 door drie boeren gevonden, gewoon in een veld. Deze inscriptie werd opgericht door koning Ezana en geschreven in drie talen; Goh, Grieks en Sabean en het vertelt over het oorlogsverhaal van de koning hoe hij zijn vijand versloeg in de oorlog.
Het graf van koning Kaleb en zijn zoon, koning Gebremeskel, ligt 2 km ten noorden van de stad en is op een strategische plaats gebouwd. Deze site werd gebouwd in de 6e eeuw en opgegraven in 1906 door de Duitse archeoloog.
De eerste kerk van St. Mary werd in de 4e eeuw gebouwd door de eerste christelijke koningen van Axum, koning Ezana en Syzana. Daarna werden er in verschillende tijden andere kerken gebouwd door verschillende heersers. Axum is de meest heiligste stad in Ethiopië, zelfs in Afrika, vanwege de ark van het Verbond die in het nieuwe gebouw van Axum bestaat. Vervolgens wordt Axum de thuisbasis van alle Ethiopische kerken en wordt de stad het tweede Jeruzalem.
Het Dongur-paleis wordt plaatselijk het paleis van de koningin van Sheba genoemd. Deze wijze koningin leefde in de 10e eeuw voor Christus. Zij was de moeder van Menilik I, degene met wie hij naar zijn vader, koning Salomo, ging en de Ark van het Verbond naar Axum bracht, waarna hij koning van Axum werd.
Het zwembad werd door de koningin van Sheba gebouwd voor haar eigen recreatieve doeleinden, volgens de lokale traditie, maar mensen noemen het Mayshum, wat 'hoofdwater' betekent. Lokale mensen gebruiken deze dag om te zwemmen, timketfestival en schoonmaakmiddelen.

My parents recently visited the historic city of Axum, Ethiopia, and I cannot thank Sycamore Ethiopia Tours and our incredible guide, Zerai and Haile, enough for making their trip absolutely perfect. Traveling can be stressful, but from the very beginning, the team went above and beyond to fulfill all of my parents' needs. They were patient, highly attentive, and customized the pace of the tour so my parents could truly enjoy the breathtaking stelae fields, ancient churches, and rich history of Axum without feeling rushed. Zerai and Haile was exceptionally knowledgeable, professional, and warm, bringing the history of the region to life while ensuring they were comfortable every step of the way. The manager was very welcoming, and understanding, car was clean, tidy and on time, driver is very helpful and provide information whenever he can, guide was very knowledgeable and helpful despite his long term injury a very nice guy, tigray region is very safe don't believe the rumors, if I did I would've missed this incredible experience. Tour Review On January 20th, I went on a tour that turned out to be one of the most exciting and memorable experiences I have had. The tour was well organized, enjoyable, and very educational. We visited several interesting places, including historical sites and beautiful natural attractions. The tour guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. He explained everything clearly and made sure everyone understood the history and importance of each place we visited. I learned many new things that I did not know before. The transportation was comfortable and arrived on time. The driver was careful and professional, which made the journey safe and smooth. We were also given enough time to take pictures, ask questions, and relax. One of the best parts of the tour was the opportunity to meet new people. We shared ideas, took photos together, and enjoyed the experience as a group. The environment was clean and welcoming. However, I think the tour could have been better if we had more time at some of the locations because some places were very interesting and needed more exploration. Overall, the tour was successful and enjoyable. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to relax, learn new things about Ethiopia, and have fun. It was truly a wonderful experience.

Haile was very responsive and gave us options which would work well with my family and friends. We were taken to the places we had agreed on. Our guide Zeray had good information on the various sites and made sure we were comfortable. I heard about the Ancient city of Axum and its magnificent attractions then i booked my tour with sycamore tours. The tour operator Mr. Haile organize my city tour and i have visited ,the ancient obelisks , royal tombs , inscriptions , palaces and the st.Mary zion church as well as the house of the Ark of Covenant believed to be there and guarding by one monk. The ciy has so many special things and its vey decent and relaxed place and most recommended to be visted. I am happy with my tour and the service offered by the company.

I have searched the best tour company and finally I found sycamore tours with some nice reviews then I booked my Axum city tour I have visited the Famous obelisk, ancient underground tombs ,Ezana Inscription, Queen of Sheba palace and at the end the most holy place St.Mary Zion Church and the house of the Ark of Covenant Building. We went to Axum and visited the ancient town with Mr. Haile tour operator of sycamore tours . We had a lovely tour everything goes smooth even more than I expected. We have visited the incredible obelisks, tombs ,museum, Ezana Inscription, Queen of Sheba Palace and the most holy place of St. Mary Zion Church and the house of Ark of Covenant. We were delighted that we have seen the guard of Ark of Covenant who is being there for the rest of his life . The city was clean beautiful and descent I ike it for us it's one of the place where you can get all. Most recommended place in 2023/2024 to be visited.

Fantastic tour guide! Spent a day with Haile - he picked us up at the airport with his driver and vehicle - and we toured Aksum’s main sites. He is personable, knowledgeable, and speaks English very well. We learned so much about the history and religion and archeology in the area, and he was patient and accommodating to all of our needs. We had the unique opportunity to speak to the priests at the churches and Haile translated for us! We would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable and friendly guide and/or tour agency - whether in Aksum or anywhere else in Ethiopia. He’s very responsive via WhatsApp which I found was not so much the case with other guides we’ve been in contact with. Wish I would have known that he arranges tours in other areas, as we probably would have booked more with him.
