Avondwandeling met communistische geschiedenis door Boedapest

Beschrijving

Reisroute

It was a great pleasure to be guided by Victoria on the Communist tour in Budapest. Victoria demonstrates extensive historical and cultural knowledge about Hungary and its key events over the past centuries. She is kind, friendly, welcoming, and attentive. We highly recommend her work to everyone.
Very disappointing tour. Our guide kept inserting his own political commentary into the tour. I am not interested in his opinions on American politics. 40 mins and we hadn't seen one site of interest in Budapest. I walked out after 45 mins. Waste of my money.
The tour starts on Blaha ter, the guide shows you the Scala building which helps to explain how in communist time many of our buildings had artificial facades placed upon them to modernise them. At Blaha ter the guides explain the unusal meeting place, how the palace district inner viii and outer viii were taken over by the communsist, how and were they turned into gypsy ghettos. The guide then heads to Keelthly Anna ter (square) she is one of our heros and the sqaure is dedicated to her . Then to the gloomy sunday street art and the statue. The guide explains the suicide rate and why the sculpture turned to miniature statues with the collapse of communism. The guide so explains as you walk through the vii Jewish district why so many jews supported communsim and then later became disillusioned. To use Hungarian those are places of importance in the communist story. We can't show you statues of Lennon or Stalin as they were all destroyed in 1989/1991. What we can show you is the scars of communsim about the build environment. You had left the tour by this stage Part of the tour is to explain how Hungary has changed since the collaspe of communism. As to the guides personal opinon . There was only 6 guests in the group and 2 of the American guests asked the guide how the communsist past shapes the political mindset and Hungarian mentality today and if he personally experienced in any impact. This is why the guide gave such an answer. It seems unfair to ask the guide their personal experience and then complain when they give it. The guide would then of gone down Andrássy Avenue, house of terror, st istan church, liberty sqaure and the parliament and finally finishes at the Duna river. We feel strong that these locations are important and of importance to tell the story of communsim. For example Kossuth Lasjos ter was there the 1956 uprising started. It was also where Imre Nagy the rightful prime monster gave his last speech, before he was later executed by the Soviets.
We enjoyed this two hour tour very much. Our guide, Victoria, gave us a great perspective on present day life in Budapest and the effect that the communist period had on present day Hungary. You will not get this kind of outlook by touring museums and doing regular, touristy things. If you are really interested in the communist period in Hungary, I highly recommend also touring the Museum of Terror.
Victoria was a delight. Not your usual tour guide an actual history professor teaching at university. Full of information and stories about what its like to live in Budapest as well as all the history from the communism era.
Victoria was an excellent guide! We learned a lot about the city and history of Budapest and Hungry. she was able to answer most of our questions!
Thank you, I am pleased that you enjoyed the tour.
Very interesting and informative tour. One of the many highlights of our Budapest trip. Our guide went into lots of detail and gave us a real insight into the background and culture of Budapest.
Thank you, I am pleased that you enjoyed the tour.
Great tour to understand the Communist (Soviet) influence on Budapest. Our guide was fantastic and provided an in-depth narrative on Communism in Hungary from WWII forward and the heavy influences Communism still has within the country. Highly recommend this tour!
Thank you for the good review.
Very interesting to hear not just about buildings but also the current repercussions of the regimes on todays society. My only suggestion for improvement would be positioning on the street- ie not by a fountain where kids are screeching, or a smelly corner or in a thoroughfare. A minor point but worth mentioning.
Welcome to Budapest. 2 We are the second poorest country in europe. The tour covers 22 locations and monuments from the viii, vii, vi and v. Some locations like parliament square, liberty square, the basicalla are beautiful, others less so, but they remain of historical significance.
It was a really interesting Tour and our Guid told us a lot about communist History in hungary. He was super chill even one of the Guest didn't stop commenting his guidence. What I liked most was that he divided communist theorie and hardcore stalinism and not just put everything together in the "bad bad communism Pot"
This tour was a great way to get to know the city and its history. Our guide Jahan was very knowledgeable about the long-term history of all of the many areas we visited and helped give us context for how the city exists today. Great tour that I recommend going on as soon as you get here. We learned a lot and saw some great sites.
