Reis zuidwaarts naar het Kona-koffieland voor de eerste stop bij Bay View Farm, een werkende koffieboerderij van 24 hectare, genesteld op de hellingen van de Mauna Loa-vulkaan net boven de prachtige Kealakekua-baai en bekend om de beste Kona-koffie sinds 1984. Hier zie je koffie groeit aan de bomen en leer over de verschillende stappen en processen bij het maken van koffie, die allemaal hier op de boerderij plaatsvinden. Je proeft 100% Kona-koffie op een prachtig uitkijkpunt met een prachtig uitzicht op Kealakekua Bay en het monument voor Captain Cook dat op het enige stukje Brits land in de Verenigde Staten staat.
Het avontuur gaat verder terwijl je door de districten South Kona en Ka'u trekt. Verbluffende uitzichten, afgewisseld tussen grimmige lavastromen en Hawaïaans droog bos, zijn zichtbaar door de enorme ramen van uw tourvoertuig. We stoppen even bij Punalu'u Bake Shop, de meest zuidelijke bakkerij van Amerika. De Bake Shop biedt sinds 1991 de beste aloude Hawaiiaanse zwezeriken en een scala aan brood en koekjes. Kort daarna kom je aan bij het pittoreske Punalu'u Black Sand Beach. Omzoomd met wuivende kokospalmen, is dit een van de beste zwarte zandstranden van het eiland. Wandel langs het strand en zoek naar honu (Groene Hawaiiaanse Zeeschildpadden) die net voor de kust eten of zonnebaden op het zand. Hier wordt een lunch in picknickstijl geserveerd als het weer het toelaat.
Reis vervolgens naar het kroonjuweel van het Big Island, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Bezoek het Kilauea Visitor's Centre, het Volcano Art Centre en de beroemde Sulphur Banks. Maak een wandeling naar de Keanakako'i-krater en stap over de zinkgaten en scheuren in de wegen die hier achter de historische uitbarsting van 2018 zijn achtergelaten, en vervolgens naar Mauna Ulu, een van de meest cultureel gevoelige locaties in het park. Je ziet een landschap bij Mauna Ulu als geen ander op aarde. Foto's zijn hier in overvloed, en hoe beter je kijkt, hoe meer ongewone en opvallende vormen en fascinerende kleuren je zult zien.

Booked this tour for my birthday and it didnt disappoint. Tour guy Mac was awesome. He was very informative and very funny. He made the tour interesting from beginning to end. Mind you, it was a 12 hour tour. Not a dull moment

Amazing! Our tour guide, Marcus, was incredibly knowledgeable about the volcanoes and Hawaii. The coffee farm was beautiful, and had great coffee! The black sands beach was exquisite. And we got to stand inside the biggest volcano! We saw steam venting from the earth. We even saw a dot of lava! Great food, and we felt safe and comfortable the whole trip. Toward the end, it started to rain and Marcus saved the day by passing out umbrellas so we could walk the lava tube without getting soaked. Super fun and highly recommend!!!
Chris or “Doc” was our guide and he was an excellent guide! He was attentive, informative, and fun! We had a great time exploring the island. He gave us great tips like a local place to eat dinner, which was fabulous! (FORC was delicious!) The tour was well timed with enough pit stops and things to do to keep it going. It was such a treat to take a nap on the way back! I enjoyed being shown cool things that I wouldn’t have found on my own. This is by far worth every penny and I thoroughly enjoyed my time! Well done, Chris!!
We were able to see green turtle. The Included Dinner in Lava Rock Cafe is very good (loco moco, fresh papaya salad, burger) we cleaned our plate. The driver gave us lots of details non-stop while he is driving. He always made sure we are ok, took care of us. This tour company I highly recommend, I woukd like to try their other tours.
Just wanted to give a shout out to Jen and Chris for making this tour an unforgettable experience! So many sites and experiences that we would never have found on our own, and their knowledge and expertise was the icing on the cake! I highly recommend this tour- every detail was well planned, the pace was perfect and the sight of the lava flow from the Volcano House a memory that will last forever! Forget any concern you might have about doing a group tour- just sit back and enjoy!
The name could be misleading as we were in the Kīlauea Crater overlook during daytime (in the month of August). The guide was nice and knowledgable. The meals were okay.
We made the tour on May 11th and unfortunately I don't remember the name of the driver/guide... but would like to thank him again ! He was just exceptional, making this long excursion an incredibly rich and enjoyable experience from beginning to end. He made sure the tour was matching our preferences, adapting the duration of the stops accordingly. Great experience !!! The administrative preparation of the excursion was much more complex and less enjoyable... I booked the excursion on the Tripadvisor site which then went through an intermediary (Viatour) who then contacted the operator (KapohoKine Adventures). Viator asked me 3 or 4 times to confirm the pickup address... I even sent them the link to the website of the hotel I was staying in (a well known 5-star resort)... Apparently the information did not get through to the operator ; 10 minutes before the pickup time, I received a new phone call asking me again the pickup address... One conclusion ; avoid intermediaries and book directly with the operator !
This trip was above and beyond informational. Our tour guide Ryan is SO knowledgeable not to mention courteous and attentive. We were traveling with my two 84 year old parents and he was very patient. In addition to all the volcano information and sightings we got to see a coffee plantation and the most southern bakery in the US. Once nightfall hit he took us back to Kilauea volcano and we got to see lava oozing and splattering. I highly recommend this tour, it was good fun. And hopefully you will luck out and get Ryan as your guide.
