Het Atoommuseum is een van de weinige particuliere nationale musea en toont enkele van de zeldzaamste artefacten die verband houden met het atoomtestprogramma van het land. Nergens anders zie je een grote kernreactor die werd gebruikt bij de ontwikkeling van de nucleaire raket en de eerste lucht-luchtraket, Genie. Persoonlijke atoomwapens die zijn ontwikkeld om te gebruiken in plaats van conventionele wapens, zoals de Backpack Nuke en het Davy Crockett Weapon System (terugstootloos geweer), worden overal in de 8000 vierkante meter aan museumexposities geplaatst.
De missie van de Nevada Test Site Historical Foundation is het behouden en bevorderen van de publieke toegankelijkheid van de geschiedenis die verband houdt met de Nevada Test Site en het nationale kernwapenprogramma. De NTS Historical Foundation promoot en ondersteunt culturele, educatieve en wetenschappelijke programmering om de ontwikkeling en openbare uitwisseling van standpunten over de Nevada Test Site en de impact ervan op de natie aan te moedigen. Het belangrijkste programma van de Nevada Test Site Historical Foundation is het National Atomic Testing Museum. Het National Atomic Testing Museum is in december 2012 aangewezen als een particulier nationaal museum en is door het congres belast met het bewaren van de geschiedenis van en het informeren van het publiek over het nucleaire testprogramma van het land. Het museum ondersteunt ook de missie van de Nevada Test Site Historical Foundation.

The attraction office had no record of my ticket purchase. If I hadn't had my phone, which operated poorly in the desert, I would not have gotten in. The staff was gracious, but the system did not appear to be arranged for the ease of online registration guests.

Conveniently situated and easy to access, this museum features a well-paced, compact layout. The exhibits are highly educational, with interactive displays that are particularly compelling for high school students studying chemistry and physics. The focus on historical Nevada testing projects provides a stark look at the public's lack of awareness during that era. However, the experience leaves a sobering impression, raising unsettling questions about whether the cleanup of nuclear debris at these test sites was ever truly completed.

If you have nothing else on your schedule, you can spend 1-2 hours here (although the admission fee is a bit high for that). Pros: - very good knowledge transfer (also interactive) - historical photos and depictions provide a good impression. - historically very interesting Cons: - I missed a critical examination (radiation victims, nuclear waste, consequences of the tests for people and the environment). It is not about a judgment - nuclear energy has brought both positive and negative things to humanity, which in my opinion belongs there.

Very interesting, as a WW2 history buff it was fascinating, the thought process of the scientists and engineers involved is spectacular, excellent guides and highly recommended.
