De titel "The New Mecca of Graffiti", die de Engelse Guardian aan Athene toeschreef, is niets dan willekeurig. Athene heeft nu een prominente plaats onder de beroemdste vanwege hun straatkunststeden. Geniet van een privéwandeling van 4 uur door Athene en leer de Street Art-scene kennen, bewonderen en fotograferen, zoals deze is gevormd door het werk van beroemde straatartiesten zoals WD, iNO en Moralez. Blader door enkele van de bekendste wijken van Athene, zoals Psyrri en Exarchia, en ontdek hun unieke karakter door de muurschilderingen, stencils en graffities die ze versieren.

Na een ontmoeting met een lid van het Be a Greek-team buiten het metrostation Panepistimio, zult u genieten van een 4 uur durende wandeling door de meest alternatieve en authentieke wijken van Athene, waarbij u de gelegenheid krijgt om kennis te maken met de Atheense straatkunst tafereel.
We vertrekken vanuit Exarchia, een bekende buurt vanwege haar artistieke en studenten uitstraling. Exclusieve straatartiesten zoals WD, STMTS, Sonke en iNO hebben een speciaal tintje gegeven aan het stedelijke landschap door deze buurt te benadrukken en beroemd te maken over de hele wereld. In Exarchia hebben we ook de mogelijkheid om te ontspannen terwijl we genieten van onze koffie in een plaatselijk café, versierd met unieke anamorfe graffiti.
Als we doorgaan, bevinden we ons in Psyrri en ontdekken we zowel het toeristische als het alternatieve karakter, terwijl we enkele van de beroemdste en mooiste kunstwerken bewonderen, zoals de beroemde hond Loukanikos (worst in het Grieks), die getuigen van de sociaal-politieke situatie van ons land. In dit deel van de wandeling krijgen we de gelegenheid om onder andere te praten over de geweldige kunstenaar Achilles en enkele van zijn unieke werken te leren kennen.
Als we Psyrri achter ons laten, passeren we het voetgangersgebied van Kerameikos en bewonderen we het contrast tussen de oude tentoonstellingen van Kerameikos en de hedendaagse kunstwerken van het gebied. Na een paar minuten bereiken we een van de hoogtepunten van onze Tour, de enorme DaVinci-muurschilderingen gemaakt door de handen van iNO, ongetwijfeld een voortreffelijk voorbeeld van de Atheense straatkunst. Aangekomen op het metrostation Kerameikos eindigt onze tour na een dag vol foto's en een geweldige ervaring.

Bianca is top notch! Professional, knowledgeable, knows her way around the various neighborhoods, spoke about art, culture, philosophy, mythology, religion; she is a walking encyclopedia. Details , insight, depth, for those seeking to truly Be a Greek. I am Greek and I learned more about my city historically and in present times than I could have known if I had read one hundred books. Within the “art walk” she gives you the meat of what it means to be an Athenian, both in past history and recent history. We will never forget her knowledge and passion for her work, and we will definitely keep in touch so that we can utilize her services again. Bianca is worth five times her weight in gold! Bianca gave an amazing tour of Athens and its vibrant street art. We saw some very interesting and evocative art produced by a collection of passionate artists. The tour was enhanced by Bianca’s knowledge of how local social and political issues drove much of the art. She was also friendly, upbeat and spoke fluent English.

It felt like we got a behind the scene tour of Athens! Without this tour we feel that we would have left Athens not truly understating the full and true landscape and culture of Athens. It would be near impossible to truly understand and appreciate the amazing street art of Athens without the spectacular storytelling from Bianca. This tour was the icing on the cake of our trip to Athens. It’s a must do!
Bianca from "Be a Greek" is truly the best guide you can imagine for the graffitti / street art tour. She is really passionate about the subject and can teach you all about the artists and artworks. In addition, she was very good at telling about the recent history of Athens and relating events related to the districts of Exarchia and Psyrri. The tour is 150% recommended and I would book another tour with Bianca at any time.
I was looking to see some special after visiting the classic Athenian sites. This walking tour was outstanding. As a photographer, I knew this tour would give me great opportunities but it was much more than that. Bianca was my guide and was exceptionally well versed in this subject. She had a deep understanding of who the artists are and what the artists are trying to convey. Bianca made this tour very special for me. If you want to see another side of Athens, I would encourage you to take this tour.

My husband and I had a most interesting day walking and talking w/ our guide Antonis. We saw fabulous examples of the artists making mostly social commentary on what is happening in Greece today. We had discussions of what life is like in Greece and what are the social issues facing the Greeks. We enjoyed learning about the current day society and how history is still influencing it. If you want to know about Greece today go to where the people live and express themselves. A very well spent day!
