Je komt door een van de meest legendarische uithoeken van de oude wereld, het Parthenon dat van bovenaf toekijkt, de geplaveide straatjes beneden liepen duizenden jaren. Geschiedenis hier is niet in een museum, het is net buiten het raam.
Op een steenworp afstand van de oude sites, Koukaki is rustig uitgegroeid tot de meest interessante wijk van Athene, laid-back, gentrified, vol met de lokale bevolking die hier eigenlijk wonen.
We genieten van de favoriete ijskoffie van Griekenland, Freddo Espresso of Freddo Cappuccino, gecombineerd met “Trigona Panoramatos”, knapperige driehoeken gemaakt van baklava phyllo deeg gedrenkt in siroop, gevuld met luchtige room.
Op deze gezellige familie gerunde plek, kunt u de kans krijgen om te kijken naar handgemaakte phyllo taarten gemaakt vanaf nul. Kies de jouwe uit kaas, kip, spinazie en meer!
In deze charmante kruidenierswinkel in delicatessenstijl proeven we een vleesplank met Griekse kazen, vleeswaren, olijven en vers brood, gecombineerd met onbeperkte tsipouro (Griekse sterke drank) en een glas wijn. Ter afsluiting Griekse yoghurt met honing.
Bezoek deze kleine, door een familie gerunde plek die bekend staat om enkele van de beste handgemaakte gyros en kebabs in de stad. Er wordt dagelijks vers pitabroodje gebakken. Geniet van een wrap met gyro (varkensvlees, kip of vegetarisch) gecombineerd met een klein Grieks biertje.
Stop bij een van de weinige plaatsen in Athene waar nog steeds traditionele Griekse donuts worden gemaakt. Krokant van buiten, zacht van binnen, belegd met honing en kaneel of chocolade. De levendige, jeugdige sfeer maakt deze zoete stop bijzonder gastvrij.
