Het centrum van de moderne stad wordt gedomineerd door de rotsachtige rots die bekend staat als de Akropolis. Het was Perikles in de vijfde eeuw voor Christus, die de bouw van de belangrijkste architectonische meesterwerken van de site coördineerde. Het Parthenon, de Propylaea, het Erechtheion en de tempel van Athena Nike werden in deze periode gebouwd onder toezicht van de grootste architecten, beeldhouwers en kunstenaars van hun tijd. De Akropolis, ook wel de "Heilige Rots" van Athene genoemd, is de belangrijkste plaats van de stad en vormt een van de meest herkenbare monumenten van de wereld !!!
De tempel van de Olympische Zeus in het zuidoosten van Athene wordt ook wel Olympieion genoemd. De bouw duurde verschillende eeuwen, van 510 voor Christus tot 131 na Christus, en het is een van de grootste oude tempels van Zeus, evenals een van de beroemdste marmeren gebouwen die ooit in de antieke wereld zijn gebouwd. Er waren oorspronkelijk 104 gigantische Korinthische zuilen, waarvan er vandaag nog 16 overeind staan, waarvan er één op de grond ligt.
Op het centrale plein van Athene staat het Griekse parlement. Daar kun je de ceremonie van de wisseling van de wacht zien.
Het enige marmeren stadion ter wereld !!! Degene die de eerste moderne Olympische spelen van 1896 organiseerde !!!
U bevindt zich op de hoogste heuvel van Athene , waar u kunt genieten van het beste panoramische uitzicht over de stad !!!
Proef een beetje van de levendige sfeer die het gebied heeft! Je kunt door de grootste voedselmarkt van de stad lopen of door oudheden je reis naar het verleden voortzetten!

An absolutely amazing tour that exceeded our expectations. Great communication prior to the tour with all of my questions being answered promptly. Our wonderful guide was waiting for us as we disembarked our cruise ship. He was warm, welcoming and had good English. Our guide was organised and had a clear plan of our tour which was timed perfectly. We never felt rushed and enjoyed just the right amount of time in each spot. Our tour was called Athens’ Finest and it absolutely was! We saw all of the most iconic spots in Athens but most importantly, our guide provided us with information about each attraction which was so important for us to have the full experience and understanding of the places we were visiting. I really wonderful tour and great value for money. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Athens.

Evangelos was prompt and met us directly at the entrance/exit of the cruise port. Immediately he went into telling us fascinating facts about the culture, daily life, and history of Piraeus and Athens. This guy knew his stuff. I really liked how he not only talked about historical aspects of Athens (which is obviously important) but he also dove deep into family life, daily life, cultural traditions, entertainment and even architecture, city planning, and zoning. He was a wealth of knowledge. The ride was extremely comfortable and he took us to go see some out of tis world sites. Even though there was some traffic in the city as we were driving around, he kept us entertain and entranced with his knowledge, but there was also a good balance of silence and letting us look around uninterrupted. Evangelos somehow got us to the changing of the guard, at the EXACT perfect time. I was thoroughly impressed. As much my mother and I loved our experience around the city, my favorite part was when he went out of his way to find us a good Greek restaurant so that we could grab some togo Gyros and Souvlaki to go before getting back on our cruise ship. I should have bought two extra gyros, they were SOOOO good. Thanks Evangelos, you made my Mom and my first trip to Athens a very memorable one, and I am already planning my return!

Whilst on a recent Greek cruise we had Athens as one of our destinations so I researched an independent tour.Brilliant couple of hours seeing the sites of Athens.Excellent communication, Michel our driver was waiting for us at the cruise terminal, very knowledgeable and adaptable for what we wanted to see during the 4 hours. Have used Viators now for several countries and would continue to trust them for independent tours.
