Dit prachtige tempelcomplex is een van de meest pittoreske van heel Egypte. Het ligt op het eiland Aglika, net ten zuiden van de oude Aswan-dam en je moet met een watertaxi naar het eiland rijden om er te geraken. De tempel werd verplaatst naar de huidige locatie na de bouw van de Hoge Dam, die hem permanent dreigde onder te dompelen. De zorgvuldige reconstructie op de huidige locatie is zorgvuldig voltooid, waarbij het oorspronkelijke uiterlijk en de lay-out van het complex zorgvuldig is bewaard en het eiland zelfs is gemodelleerd naar de voormalige locatie. De Aswan Dam, of meer specifiek sinds de jaren 1960, de Aswan High Dam, is een dijkdam gebouwd tussen 1960 en 1970 over de Nijl in Aswan, Egypte. Gebaseerd op het succes van de Lage Dam, en vervolgens bij maximale benutting, werd de bouw van de Hoge Dam een hoofddoel van de regering na de Egyptische revolutie van 1952; met zijn vermogen om overstromingen beter te beheersen, meer wateropslag voor irrigatie te bieden en hydro-elektriciteit te genereren, werd de dam gezien als cruciaal voor de geplande industrialisatie van Egypte. If you are in Aswan this tour is a 'must do'... The Aswan High Dam is nice to see, but the real highlight is the Philae Temple on the island, which also houses a Roman temple. A magic place! Both the driver and the guide (Aida) where five star quality. The guide gives you a lot of information about both the Greek and Roman temples. And she is very funny... 😉

This is a quick 3-4 hours excursion to see two of the most popular attractions in Aswan. But not that much to see at the high dam, so more time is better spent at the Philae Temple.

Mary our tour guide was not very friendly or helpful at all. We felt like she was covering the basic information, and pushing us along, and be done with us. We got more information about the dam and the temple from listening to other tours and their guides. She kept trying to push us into shopping at her favorite vendors instead of just having us walk by them. So with all the other tour companies available we recommend find another company.

Amazing temple, great experience to the high dam. Our guide Aida and our driver were extremely professional and we go so much more information to help us understand what we were looking at. She then gave us extra time to look around and take photos. Would recommend booking Aida for this tour.
