Assisi en Orvieto uit Rome: Geniet van een dagtour met kleine groepen

De tour start vanuit je hotel, een kans om een heerlijke dag buiten Rome door te brengen en Umbrië te bezoeken, een van de meest pittoreske regio's van Italië, rijk aan wijngaarden, olijfbomen en de beroemde dorpjes op een heuveltop. Een van de bekendste is Assisi, een UNESCO-werelderfgoedlocatie. De mystieke stad Sint Franciscus, omringd door zijn oude muren, werd gebouwd op de groene hellingen van de berg Subasio en biedt met zijn kleurrijke stenen huizen, smalle straatjes, bloeiende balkons en adellijke paleizen prachtige uitzichten voor onvergetelijke foto's (vergeet je camera niet ). Een interessant bezoek aan de Sint-Franciscusbasiliek, met zijn meesterwerken uit de vroege renaissance van Giotto en Cimabue, en de basiliek van Santa Maria degli Angeli. Tijd voor lunch in een typisch restaurant (optioneel) en daarna gaat de tour verder naar Orvieto, waar u een meesterwerk van gotische architectuur kunt bewonderen met een glinsterende façade van glas-in-lood, mozaïeken en sculpturen. Geniet van de charme van Orvieto en verken het stadscentrum en vervolgens terug naar Rome.

Een interessant bezoek aan de Sint-Franciscusbasiliek met zijn meesterwerken uit de vroege Renaissance van Giotto en Cimabue en de basiliek van Santa Maria degli Angeli. Basiliek van Sint-Maria van de engelen, Na de dood van Sint Franciscus in 1226 bouwden de broeders verschillende kleine hutten rondom de Porziuncola. In 1230 werden een refter en enkele aangrenzende gebouwen toegevoegd. In de loop van de tijd werden kleine portico's en accommodaties voor de broeders rond de Porziuncola toegevoegd. Sommige fundamenten hiervan werden ontdekt tijdens opgravingen onder de vloer van de huidige basiliek tussen 1967 en 1969. Toen enorme aantallen pelgrims massaal naar Assisi kwamen om de "Pardon van Assisi" te ontvangen, werd de kleine ruimte van de Porziuncola volledig ontoereikend om al deze pelgrims te huisvesten. De noodzaak groeide om een kerk te bouwen waarin de Porziuncola is verwerkt. De gebouwen rond het heiligdom werden op bevel van paus Pius V (1566-1572) neergehaald, behalve de kapel van de Transito, de cel waarin St. Franciscus was gestorven. De bouw van de basiliek begon op 25 maart 1569.

De Koepel van Orvieto is een van de mooiste Italiaanse kathedraal, een meesterwerk van de gotische architectuur van het centrum van Italië. Elisabetta was a wonderful guide and when she handed us off to Victoria at the entrance to Assisi, the trip went up a notch. I have personally been there two times before and did not have as thorough an explanation for all of the artistry as I did this time. We were comfortable in the car ride and there was only four of us for the day trip so it was very personalized. I would not hesitate to recommend it 100%.

Fantastic Day in Assisi! Juliana and her driver were the best! Picked up my wife and me at 7 a.m. at our hotel and headed out for a great day in Assisi. Juliana was a wonderful guide - very thoughtful and allowed us to move at our own pace. In Assisi, we had a guide who walked us through the town and churches - explaining everything in detail. After a nice lunch, we stopped by Orvieto for a brief tour. Beautiful church. Highly recommend this tour and Juliana!
