U krijgt een close-up van 5 voorbeeldige gebouwen van Joegoslavische socialistische architectuur : Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst, Paleis van de Federatie, Genex Tower, Blok 23 en Sava Center. Je ontdekt de gebouwen voor de socialistische elites, gebouwen voor socialistische bedrijven, gebouwen om indruk te maken op de niet-gebonden kameraden en volkswoningblokken voor de klasseloze samenleving. Je zult zien hoe en waarom de architectuur veranderde van het Sovjet-achtige naar modernisme naar brutalisme. In 2 uur begrijp je 50 jaar Joegoslavische utopie. Deze architectuur, die de afgelopen jaren internationale erkenning heeft gekregen van instellingen als het MoMA en de Biënnale van Venetië, zal u het verhaal van Joegoslavië vertellen: zijn waarden van gelijkheid, eenheid en broederschap en zijn ambitie om alles te produceren en op te bouwen wat de westerse samenleving zou kunnen. De gebouwen komen tot leven als uw kunsthistorische Gids u vertelt over persoonlijk beleefde ervaringen in de woonblokken tijdens de jaren 1980 en 1990.

Je ontmoet de gids voor het Museum voor Hedendaagse Kunst in Ušće. Je zult de modernistische jaren 1960-volumes verkennen en ontdekken waarom zijn kostbare marmeren gevels de stereotypische verwachtingen van socialistische architectuur tegenspreken.
Dit is onze plek om de niet-gebonden beweging van 120 landen te raken. Het werd opgericht in 1961 in Belgrado, toen de staatshoofden de bomen in het Park plantten als symbool van vrede.
Vervolgens rijden we langs het enorme regeringsgebouw, een veelzeggend monument van een eerdere fase van de YU-politiek, een gebouw dat de omschakeling van Stalin onder constructie ervoer.
Je hebt een close-up van Genex Tower, ook bekend als de Western City Gate van Belgrado, een structuur met 30 verdiepingen die instagrams en harten van veel Belgrado-bezoekers heeft gewonnen. Het was 40 jaar geleden gebouwd en was het eerste slimme gebouw op de Balkan. Het ging de internationale architectuurrecensies binnen als een goed voorbeeld van brutalisme.
Je laatste stop is een gigantisch congrescentrum, eind jaren 70 in recordtijden gebouwd. Het was het eerste gebouw van dat soort in dit deel van Europa. Het is nog steeds in gebruik en bevat een aantal verrassend goed ontworpen interieuroplossingen die zelfs na 40 jaar vers lijken.
Binnen het blok nr. 23, het meest representatieve sociale woningbouwproject, opnieuw in de stijl van concreet expressionisme, ontdek je het concept dat alles voor de inwoners voorzag. De appartementsgebouwen, school, de kleuterschool, de sportvelden, het mini-winkelcentrum. Je hoort de persoonlijke verhalen van de gids over het leven in de blokken in hun gouden decennia van de jaren '60, '70 en '80. En de verhalen over het leven niet zo geweldig in de jaren 90.

So i visited Belgrade this January and coming from a post-soviet country myself i was really igor to find out more about brutalist architecture they have there. Ksenja is the best guide u could ever find. she’s charming, very interesting and easygoing! the excursion was amazing! we got to find out a lot of interesting facts about all the buildings and monuments, moreover Ksenja doesn’t bore you with all the stuff like “this was built in the year…” - so you have to memorize all those dates, she tells you stories of those buildings and of the people who lived in them! Nonetheless if you get tired - you can do a snack-stop in some wonderful places Ksenja is going to recommend! So overall this was a 10/10 wonderful experience! Ksenja, thank you so much!

The tour gave us an excellent overview of the socialist architecture and the city's landmarks of the era. The guide Ksenija was excellent in putting the architecture in a wider context. I loved her personal stories of growing up in New Belgrade during the last decade of the communist Yugoslavia. Something quite unique!

It really was a true discovery! We imagined the communist architecture differently. We were surprised to see a primary school with modernistic shapes in red brick, with a swimming pool! Genex Tower is absolutely worth seeing, like a spaceship, such a remarkable structure. Myself being a Belgrade native, I thought I knew this city all too well. Realising I did not in fact know these parts of New Belgrade, I felt curious and so I decided to book this tour. I chose this tour to show a little bit of Belgrade to my foreign friends another side of this large city, apart from the city centre. Typically I am not a fan of the more recent approaches in architecture - however, I have always been drawn towards New Belgrade block and I just wanted to know more. The tour guides came up with a great concept here and were very interesting to listen to. Walk aside Danube is simply perfect. My personal favourite is the Genex tower - hope it will be reconstructed and kept well. Please take your time to visit New Belgrade and I hope my take will inspire you.
