Bezoek zonsopgang buiten Angkor Wat met de grote tempel in duisternis vanaf de westelijke kant binnen en geniet van de sfeer van de dageraad in Angkor, vanaf de rand van een van de oude bibliotheekzwembaden. Breng je dag door met tempel-hoppen met je lokale gids om het meeste te halen uit je bezoek aan het wereldberoemde Angkor-complex, gebouwd tussen de 9e en 13e eeuw, toen het Khmer-imperium de invloed bij uitstek was in Zuidoost-Azië.

We beginnen met een vertrek vóór zonsopgang (4.30 - 4.45 uur, afhankelijk van de tijd van het jaar) vanuit je hotel voor zonsopgang buiten Angkor Wat. Betreed de grote tempel in duisternis vanaf de weinig bezochte oostelijke zijde en kruip langs grauwe kloosterde gangen voorbij het langste stuk basreliëfsnijwerk ter wereld.
De zuidpoort van Angkor Thom is de best bewaard gebleven. Het wordt van buitenaf benaderd via een verhoogde weg die zich ongeveer vijftig meter uitstrekt over een gracht. Aan elke kant van de verhoogde weg zijn leuningen gevormd met 54 stenen figuren die betrokken zijn bij de uitvoering van een beroemd hindoe-verhaal: de mythe van het karnen van de oceaan. Aan de linkerkant van de gracht trekken 54 'devas' (beschermgoden) het hoofd van de slang 'Shesha' terwijl aan de rechterkant 54 'asura's' (demonische goden) de staart van de slang in de tegenovergestelde richting trekken. In deze mythe wordt het lichaam van de slang om de centrale berg gewikkeld - Mt. Meru - misschien overeenkomend hier met de Bayon-tempel in het midden van de site. Hoe dan ook, de mythe vertelt dat toen de Devas de slang in de ene richting trokken en de goden de andere duwden, de oceaan begon te karnen en de elementen te laten neerslaan. Door afwisselend heen en weer te wisselen, werd de oceaan 'gemolken', waardoor de aarde en de kosmos opnieuw werden gevormd.
Angkor Thom is de majestueuze locatie die ooit diende als de glinsterende hoofdstad van het Khmer-rijk. Neem even de tijd om de grootsheid ervan te overwegen voordat u zich binnen de stad waagt. Aangekomen bij de tempel van Bayon, waarderen de prachtig vormgegeven centrale torens bedekt met meer dan 200 enorme gezichten.
Het 350 meter lange Terrace of Elephants werd gebruikt als een gigantische beoordelingsstand voor openbare ceremonies en diende als basis voor de grote audiëntiezaal van de koning. Het heeft vijf buitenwerken die zich uitstrekken naar het centrale plein - drie in het midden en één aan elk uiteinde. Het middelste deel van de keermuur is versierd met levensgrote garuda's en leeuwen; naar beide uiteinden zijn de twee delen van de beroemde parade van olifanten compleet met hun Khmer-mahouts.
Een van de meest sfeervolle van alle tempels in Angkor. Toen Ta Prohm eenmaal de thuisbasis was van 2.740 monniken, ziet het er vandaag uit, net als in de vroege jaren 1850, toen de Franse ontdekkingsreiziger Henri Mouhot deze afbrokkelende site 'herontdekte'. Na het verkennen van het doolhofachtige interieur van Ta Prohm, keert u terug naar uw hotel na een lange maar bevredigende dag, die u een leven lang herinneringen zal laten aan een van de wonderen van de wereld.

We had a guided tour by Sam and his driver Da! It was just amazing, he showed us the best spots instead of all the tourist spots! It was impressive how much knowlegde Sam had on both the temples as well as the Khmer history. I would recommend him for sure! A 10/10 experience. And he was a great cameraman as well!!

This tour was awwsome! Watching the sunrise at Angkor Wat was absolutely breathtaking, but what really made the day unforgettable was our amazing guide, Sam, and our driver, Mr. Ha. Sam was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate. As we walked through the temples, he shared fascinating stories and historical details that brought each place to life. He also planned the route perfectly, making sure we avoided unnecessary walking in the heat while still seeing all the highlights. We learned so much and enjoyed every moment. Mr. Ha was equally fantastic. He was always there waiting for us at each temple exit with cold water and refreshing towels, which made such a difference during the day. It is a must do experience!

Sam was a great tour guide who took us to a great spot to watch the sunset overlooking Angkor Wat. Seeing the different temples of Angkor Wat, Bayon Temple, and Ta Prohm was amazing. Sam had a lot of details to share and made it interesting with his story telling. He even added some details about the culture of Cambodia which was nice to learn. He's also great taking photos and knows all the good spots. I highlight recommend this tour! To top it off, our driver Ha was amazing and so attentive. Every time we got on the bus he had a cold towel and water ready for us.
