Het is een plek om te communiceren met het traditionele weefsel van het oude Korea. en ook kan je het hele uitzicht op dit dorp vanaf de overkant van de rivier genaamd Buyongdae Cliff bekijken voordat je naar dit unieke dorp gaat Na het Hahoe-dorp kan de toerist de tijd nemen om het Hahoe Mask Museum te verkennen, met zijn intrigerende collectie Koreaanse en internationale maskers. Voor de laatste bezoekplaats gaan we naar Byeongsan Seowon, een confuciaanse school die is opgericht door gewaardeerde confucianistische geleerden om hulde te brengen aan de nagedachtenis van Seong-nyong Ryu • Toeristen worden opgehaald en naar een hotel in Seoul of het nabijgelegen Seoul gestuurd. Toeristen kunnen lopen en voelen een echt oud traditioneel dorp waar nog steeds een oude cultuur en traditionele Koreaanse huizen te vinden zijn. Dit prachtige traditionele dorp aan de rivier, dat op de werelderfgoedlijst van Unesco staat, is een plek om te communiceren met het traditionele weefsel van het oude Korea en, in de drukke maanden, met grote menigten bezoekers. Vermijd de weekends, ga buiten het seizoen en word beloond met een glimp van de bucolische betovering en de zachte ritmes van het plattelandsdorpsleven.
Buyongdae is een klif ongeveer 64 meter hoog gelegen, waar het Taebaeksan gebergte eindigt. Vanaf de top kan men een vogelvlucht bekijken van Hahoe Village in Andong. De naam is overgenomen uit een oude geschiedenis van China. Betekenis lotus, de naam Buyongdae wordt gezegd als gegeven voor de configuratie van Hahoe Village als een lotusbloem. Zo kan men vanaf de klif het beste uitzicht op het dorp krijgen. Gelegen in de buurt van Buyongdae zijn Ogyeonjeongsa House, Gyeomamjeongsa House, en Hwacheon Seowon Academy.
Het Hahoe Mask Museum bevindt zich in Andong Hahoe Village, dat op de werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO staat en belangrijk folklore-materiaal nr. 122. Hahoe Village is een representatief traditioneel Koreaans folklorestadje en is de thuisbasis van het Hahoe-masker (National Treasure No. 121) en de Byeolsin Gut Mask Dance (belangrijke immateriële culturele eigenschappen nr. 69). Het museum toont niet alleen Hahoe-maskers, maar ook andere traditionele maskers van over de hele wereld. Het museum bestaat uit vijf permanente tentoonstellingshallen en een speciale tentoonstellingshal met een breed scala aan maskers van over de hele wereld, samen met Hahoe-maskers. Het museum biedt ook activiteitenprogramma's aan zoals het dragen van een masker, masker-trick art, fotozone en meer.
Byeongsanseowon is een confucianistische school die is opgericht door gewaardeerde confucianistische geleerden om hulde te brengen aan de nagedachtenis van Seong-nyong Yu (1542-1607), die goed werd gerespecteerd voor zijn geschriften en persoonlijkheid. Zijn mortuariumtablet is verankerd op deze school. Rond de tijd van 1863 genoten confuciaanse scholen onder de Joseon-heerschappij vele vrijheden, studenten en geleerden van de school waren vrijgesteld van belastingen en andere uitgaven. Byeongsan Seowon was een van de 47 plaatsen in heel Korea en 2 in Andong niet vernietigd tijdens de regering van Daewongun [politicus van de familie Joseon Imperial, 1820 - 1898] in 1868. De rivier de Nakdong-gang ligt vlak voor de Confucian Academy. Steek de rivier over en de Byeongsan-berg is te vinden. Door het vormen van een opvouwbaar scherm zoals de vorm rond de academie, beschermen de bergen zowel een serene schoonheid als voegen ze toe aan het gebied.

We had a fantastic day out with Kim. From the timely pickup (I know our hotel wasn't the best known place) to the dropoff, it was all smooth and well planned. We visited all points of interest in Hahoe area with Kim's story telling of the folk village, the village viewpoint and the Confucian Academy - two UNESCO world heritage sites on one day - with plenty of time to browse the town and the museum on our own . Kim also treated us to local apple bread and encouraged us to order soy sauce chicken/ mackerel combo for lunch, which we didn't get a chance to do anywhere else during our trip to South Korea after so we are glad we did. Not to mention his safe driving from 7:30am to basically 8pm. When you spend that much time together in a car, you get into a somewhat intimate or private conversation about somewhat intimate or private topics like family choices, politics, even religion. I'm sure Kim wouldn't have forced us into those convos, but seeing our openness (my husband is actually keen to talk about these things) Kim shared a lot of his perspectives on the topics, which was very interesting and insightful. It was a meaningful day out for us.

it is a long drive form Seoul, so be prepared to have a drive for .5 hours. we did it private, so it was fine

Nice place to visit but it is a long way from Seoul so be prepared for a long day. Trip was nice in a very good car. Our guide was a former military officer and we had a lot of good discussions. His English was very good. Overall a very good experience. We had lunch of Mackerel that was delicious and local apples that are out of this world good. Great day in andong.

Jimmy is a knowledgeable and easy going guide who has a very comfortable people mover van for napping on the way home. I had lots of questions about Korean life and history which he was able to answer. Going to these tourist spots in winter meant we had the places almost to ourselves, just dress warmly and wear good walking shoes in case of ice.
