Deze kleine Peloponese tour is een goede gelegenheid om in één dag een van de belangrijkste bezienswaardigheden van het schiereiland te zien. Bezoek de geboorteplaats van de Olympische Spelen. Ren de baan waarop atleten vroeger renden, hun enige prijs, een olijfkrans en beleef de ervaring van de plaats waar de Olympische fakkel wordt aangestoken.

Beginnend met een rit langs de kust, krijgt u de kans om enkele Griekse kustdorpjes en het eiland Salamis te zien. In Salamis vond de historische zeeslag plaats tussen de Atheners en de Perzen. Onze eerste stop van de dag, het kanaal van Korinthe. Uiteindelijk geopend in 1892, scheidde de Peloponnesos van de rest van Griekenland terwijl de Saronische Golf werd verbonden met de Korinthische Zee. Als je tijd hebt om over een voetgangersbrug te lopen en het kanaal dichterbij te bewonderen, kun je op sommige dagen gaan bungeejumpen (als je een game bent).
We bezoeken de archeologische vindplaats en het museum van het oude Olympia. Dit is een van de grootste locaties in Griekenland, de geboorteplaats van de Olympische Spelen en het Heiligdom van Olympische Zeus. Als je door de site loopt, kom je langs het Gymnasium, het Palaistra, de werkplaats van Phidias, de Tempel van Zeus en kom je in het stadion uit waar de Grieken om de vier jaar streden om glorie en spirituele verheffing ter ere van hun steden.
Het museum is ook vrij uniek omdat het het beroemde standbeeld "Hermes van Praxiteles" bevat met zijn perfecte analogieën en hulpmiddelen die aan Phidias zelf toebehoorden. Met het gereedschap creëerde hij een van de zeven wereldwonderen: 'het gouden ivoren beeld van Zeus'.
Het Museum van de Geschiedenis van de Oude Olympische Spelen herbergt 463 oude werken, van de Tempel van Zeus in Olympia, en andere musea op Grieks grondgebied. De exposities beslaan een breed chronologisch bereik, van het 2e millennium voor Christus tot de 5e eeuw na Christus. Oude tentoongesteld in thematische eenheden en via hen toont yperchilietis de geschiedenis van de Olympische spelen, de langste oude instelling. Naast oude kunst heeft de bezoeker de mogelijkheid tot gedetailleerde informatie door het rijke beeldmateriaal. Na een wandeling in de voetsporen van oude atleten zullen we onze lunch in het dorp nuttigen.
We rijden terug naar Athene.

We went to so many places. It was an ideal day for us. We only had one full day in Athens. We feel like we saw everything we wanted to see. Talis was a great driver and told us about everything. He was very good. Would highly recommend him. Lunch was really good. All in all it was a perfect day.

Stephanos MALATOS was a great guide- he briefed us on the various sites just prior to entering and oriented us on where we entered and where we would exit. He gave us enough time to explore on our own and kept in touch via what’s app. The lunch was wonderful and he picked us up and dropped us off at the hotel. Very knowledgeable and very personable.

This tour was amazing and a must do for anyone visiting Greece. It is a bit of a drive from Athens but definitely worth the trip. Our driver, Nasos, was wonderful. He has a detailed and thorough knowledge of the site. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. I highly recommend this tour company, and be sure to request Nasos as your driver!

The private tour by Olive Sea Travel is excellent! It was a great way to end our 14-day Greece holiday. Highly recommend the trip to Ancient Olympia. It is such a massive, awesome archaelogical site! Get the combined ticket that include admission to the 2 museums - it's well worth it. And do race down the 600 ft track at the stadium when you get there! Super fun! A special mention on Yannis, our tour guide. He is so warm, friendly and accommodating. Despite the long drive from Athens, it was never boring as we could chat with Yannis and learn from him much about Greece. Thanks Yannis for suggesting the little village (can't recall the name) you brought us for lunch. Such a peaceful village and cosy family restaurant. We had a private tour from Athens anf the drive itself was scenic. We could see the Corinth canal and the seat of Ancient Olympics. The two museums are a must see.
