Start deze tour voor het Amsterdam Voyager Hotel. Vanaf hier loopt u naar de beroemde Amsterdamse Wallen. Het eerste deel van de tour voert door het oude stadsgedeelte en de Chinatown van Amsterdam. Hier krijgt u inzicht in de geschiedenis van Amsterdam en de omgeving. Loop vervolgens naar het centrum van de Wallen waar de gids je alles vertelt over de prostitutie, coffeeshopcultuur en geschiedenis van de Amsterdamse Wallen. Je gids vertelt je hoe het werkt als prostituee op de Wallen, de liberale wetten en vertelt je veel interessante weetjes. Je gids vertelt je ook over de coffeeshopcultuur van Amsterdam. Ontdek waar de naam ‘coffeeshop’ vandaan komt en welke vreemde wetten we hebben over de consumptie en productie van softdrugs.

1. De dam, ook bekend als de stad gebouwd op bomen: Omdat de grond in Amsterdam bestaat uit een dikke laag veen en klei, zijn sommige gebouwen in de stad gebouwd op houten palen die zijn bevestigd in een zandlaag van ongeveer 11 meter diep. Van oudsher is bekend dat de huizen in Amsterdam zijn gebouwd op houten funderingspalen die diep in de klei, het veen en het water worden geheid tot ze de eerste laag vast zand bereiken.
Het gebied maakt deel uit van de Wallen, om precies te zijn, onderdeel van de Oude Stad. Dit is dus het oudste deel van de stad en daarom is er ook veel geschiedenis.
Pub The Ape, ook wel Int Aepjen genoemd. Gebouwd rond 1540 en een van de twee overgebleven houten gebouwen in Amsterdam. Dat is heel bijzonder aangezien er in 1452 een grote brand was en daarna besloot de regering dat gebouwen bakstenen gevels moesten hebben.
De Waag was vroeger een van de stadspoorten van Amsterdam, een onderdeel van de verdedigingsmuur. Het werd gebouwd rond 1400 en is het op een na oudste gebouw van Amsterdam. Later werd het gebruikt als een gilde, ambachtsorganisaties, die zich binnen de Waag en rond het plein situeerden.
Het kleinste huis van Amsterdam werd gebouwd rond 1700 en werd eerst gebruikt als opslagplaats voor de VOC-handelsmaatschappij. Later gingen mensen heel lang in het huis wonen.
Dit is 's werelds eerste condoomwinkel speciaal voor condooms, hier sinds 1987. Je kunt condooms op maat en allerlei speciale condooms krijgen.

When we met Ben, he immediately made us feel comfortable with his friendly personality and enthusiasm. Right from the start, we knew we were in for a great tour. Ben provided so much detailed information, including interesting facts and stories that went beyond what we expected. He answered every question thoroughly, and the way he shared the history and stories kept all of us engaged from beginning to end. His charisma and passion for what he does truly made the experience memorable. If we were to take this tour again, we would absolutely choose Ben as our guide. In fact, he has such a great personality that he’s someone we wouldn’t mind hanging out with outside of the tour! Thank you so much, Ben, for an incredible experience. Our host shared interesting history and information about the district. It was worth seeing. It's not as large a district as it was when we visited some years ago.
Highly recommend this tour for anyone that is interested in learning about the red light district and how it came to be. We had Robin as our tour guide, he was really lovely, knowledgeable and funny. He told us a lot of information we would not have found out about if we did not do the tour. The tour included parts of old town as well. The tour was informative and very respectful and I would highly recommend it.
The red light district has “ tamed down” significantly in the last five years and honestly there was not much of interest there. Our guide was not allowed to take us to some of the areas and gave us 20 minutes on our own. Other than that he did not have much to say other than that he was tired and really wanted to be home and have a shower.

The tour was a little less than an hour and a half. The historical and cultural information was fine. But there wasn’t much time spent in the red light district.

The tour is a great way for first time visitors to Amsterdam to learn valuable insight into the do's and don'ts of Amsterdam as well providing lots of interesting historical facts and stories. I would recommend taking this tour very early on a first trip to Amsterdam.
