Terwijl we verborgen binnenplaatsen, iconische bezienswaardigheden en prachtige grachten verkennen, weven we lokale tips, historische feiten en mythen samen op een manier die ervoor zorgt dat u net zoveel van Amsterdam gaat houden als wij!

We beginnen onze tour in het hart van de wereldberoemde grachtengordel van Amsterdam. Hier leren we hoe Nederlanders naast het water moesten bestaan en hoe het door de eeuwen heen de cultuur en mentaliteit van Nederland heeft gevormd.
De beroemdste wijk van deze stad en misschien wel van de wereld. Ontdek de geschiedenis, waarom deze wijk er ligt, hoe deze wijk werkt en hoe de Nederlanders ernaar kijken.
Het centrale en belangrijkste plein van Amsterdam, waar we de Nederlandse strijd tegen het water onderzoeken en hoe dit onze cultuur en manier van denken heeft gevormd.
Ontdek hoe en waarom de Nederlanders van katholiek naar protestant gingen op de prachtige en serene binnenplaats naast de kerk
Hier, aan het begin van de Joodse wijk van Amsterdam, duiken we in het tragische lot van tienduizenden Joodse mensen die in Amsterdam woonden vóór en tijdens de oorlog en de verschrikkelijke hongerwinter.
In dit voormalige hoofdkwartier van de Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie ontdekken we hoe dit kleine landje uitgroeide tot een enorm imperium en de wereldhandel in specerijen naar zich toe trok, terwijl het tegelijkertijd vocht voor zijn bestaan en onafhankelijkheid.
Aan de oevers van de Amstel vindt u het moderne stadhuis van Amsterdam. Ontdek waarom de Amsterdammers het 'Stopera' noemen en waarom het, ondanks dat het een van de lelijkste gebouwen van de stad is, nog steeds een plek is waar Amsterdammers trots op zijn.

My wife and I did the Hit the Bricks walking tour with another couple during a recent visit to Amsterdam. We also did their canal tour, twice, during the same visit. We enjoyed all the tours. We had 9 people in our walking tour group. Our tour guide Dave was very knowledgeable and shared his knowledge throughout the tour. We covered a lot of territory, but there were frequent stops so that Dave could talk about what we were seeing. Dave was a bit more conservative than the canal tour guides, but entertaining nonetheless. I highly recommend the Hit the Bricks tour if you visit Amsterdam, or if you live there and want to learn more about the city’s history.
Fab introduction to Amsterdam! Axel was informative, good fun and knowledgeable- what more can you ask for?! Kept us safe among the bridges and bicycles!
I had always gone to Amsterdam for specific art exhibitions and this time decided to see some more of the city. I did both an evening 90 minute canal boat tour with Those Dam Boat Guys and, another day, a 2 hour (slow walking with lots of stops) walking tour with Hit the Bricks walks, a sister company. The guides were the big draw. They were articulate, entertaining and informative. The meeting place, a 15 minute walk from the Central Station, is a comfortable office with character where water, a toilette and provisions for the boat are available. I felt at home as a solo traveler with friendly international travellers and had a great time. Small, personable groups. The only reason the walking tour isn't a 5 star is because while the Begunhof was on the walking tour description, we did not go as it was a Saturday and, I was told, far too crowded with concerts on. Oh, and if you are there on a Wednesday night, the related bar next door as open mike stand up comedy in English.
We had an interesting and useful walk with Axel. He took us to places and shared information thar were useful for the rest of the weekend. Ask him about the canals, he is really an expert. We followed his advice sbout the canalmuseum for instanse.
We , my husband and I, were lucky enough to have a private tour with David. With his background as an historian David gave us a great history of The Netherlands, the formation of the country and the development of Amsterdam both physically and commercially. Axel led our tour and he was excellent. Very informative. Axel covered a lot of ground walking and historically. I strongly recommend.
We worked with Axel at Hit the Bricks Walking tours for our small group tour in Amsterdam on Saturday, April 25th. We provided a custom walking tour through the canal belt, dropping us off at our restaurant for lunch. Axel is a great story teller and a born comedian. We can't wait to bring another group back.
We did a walking tour with David, and it was fantastic. He is really knowledgeable of history and about what's going on in the city currently. Plus he had a great personality that made the tour fun and humorous. Highly recommend.
