Rondreisopties
Reisroute

Seeing the waves in Nazare has been on our “bucket list” for many years. We had visited Lisbon in 2018 hoping to see waves but the weather didn’t cooperate. So we decided to come back to Portugal this time staying in Porto. Nazare is a 2+ hour drive from Porto and not easily accessible by public transportation so we were excited to find a day tour that included Nazare. Our tour guide Miguel picked us up at our Airbnb, having already checked the wave and tide forecast so that we could arrive in Nazare when the waves would be best. Miguel was extremely knowledgeable about Portuguese history and culture and kept us completely engaged for the 1 1/2 hour drive to Alcobaca Monastery, our first stop. He guided us through the church and the monastery explaining the architectural highlights and historical significance. Our visit to Nazare was perfectly timed to arrive at the best viewing site to see the surfers. An hour later, the waves subsided and the surfers went in. We had a quick lunch and headed back to Porto adding a short stop in Aveiro since we had expressed interest in seeing this picturesque town. Overall we were very pleased with the tour and highly recommended Miguel.
Thank you very much for sharing such a thoughtful and detailed review of your day trip to Nazaré and Alcobaça. We are delighted to know that this experience fulfilled a long-awaited item on your travel “bucket list.” Miguel will be especially pleased to read your comments. His attention to the wave and tide forecasts, as well as his deep knowledge of Portuguese history and culture, are qualities we value greatly within our team. It is wonderful to hear that his guidance at the Alcobaça Monastery and his timing at the Nazaré viewpoints enhanced your day in such a meaningful way. We are also glad that the additional stop in Aveiro aligned perfectly with your interests—our goal is always to create itineraries that feel personal, seamless, and memorable. Thank you again for recommending Miguel and our company. It was a pleasure to host you, and we hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable experience in Portugal. Warm regards, Ana
Picked up in front of our apartment by Carlos, we began our tour being driven to the massive Monastery of Alcobaçaz, which is an awe-inspiring edifice, particularly the interior, in its size, facilities and grandeur. It is also the place where the tragic love story of King Pedro I and the body of the love of his life, Ines de Castro (ordered to be murdered by Pedro’s father, King Alfonso IV) ended, buried in 1376 with their tombs facing each other, so they could meet in the afterlife. This story, immortalised in literature, theatre and art, gives this visit a special significance. The journey on to Nazare is a truly scenic one, and with the view over the town, from Forte de Sao Miguel, of the beaches and the waves of the Atlantic Ocean rolling in to shore from the headland, and it reminded us of our Australian coastline. In a heavy rolling Having seafood lunch at a beachside restaurant in this seaside setting, in our own time, was a most enjoyable finish! A great day out! Susan & Graeme (Australia).
Dear Susan & Graeme, Thank you so much for your wonderful review and for sharing your experience in such rich detail! We’re thrilled to hear that your day exploring Alcobaça and Nazaré with Carlos was so memorable. The story of Pedro and Inês truly adds a moving layer to the grandeur of the monastery, and we’re glad it left an impression. We’re also happy to know that the scenic coastal drive and the relaxed seafood lunch by the Atlantic reminded you of home—what a lovely connection to make! It was a pleasure having you with us, and we hope to welcome you back to Portugal one day for more adventures. Warm regards, Ana
My wife and I enjoyed our trip with Carlos immensely. Carlos picked us up at our hotel right on time and we headed out of Porto to Alcobaca. On the drive Carlos shared a lot of the history of Portugal, its geography and political evolution. We arrived at Alcobaca right as the monastery was opening, allowing us a relatively uncrowded tour of the facility. Then off to Nazare where we were able to drive up to and park right at the lighthouse because of a pass that Carlos had purchased (no need to make the long walk or pay for a ride on a tuk-tuk). We were able to climb onto the roof of the museum/lighthouse to view the waves and the beach as well as the village of Nazare itself. Back into the van to drive back into Nazare itself where Carlos dropped us off so we could get some lunch at one of the many restaurants (parking was in short supply). After lunch we contacted Carlos so he could pick us up and take us to see the harbor and extensive fish drying area. Throughout the drives Carlos explained many of the customs and history of the area. In addition, Carlos also gave us several suggestions of what to see and do when we continued our vacation in the southern portion of Portugal. He even took us for a few "bonus" sites to see in Porto and Gaia since we had some time left over at the end of the day (my wife and I were the only ones on the tour, so we were very time efficient). Carlos grew up in Gaia and his pride and knowledge of the area and his country served to enhance our experience and made the day a worthwhile adventure.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us! We’re thrilled to hear that you and your wife had such a wonderful day with Carlos. It sounds like he made your journey both informative and comfortable, from the perfectly timed visits to Alcobaça and Nazaré to the thoughtful "bonus" stops in Porto and Gaia. We're glad that Carlos's deep knowledge and passion for Portugal enriched your tour, and that his personalized approach added to the enjoyment of your trip. We hope the recommendations he gave you for the southern part of Portugal made the rest of your vacation even more memorable. We look forward to welcoming you back for more adventures in the future!
Nazare is beautiful and worth seeing as well as the monastery. However, the tour was really expensive for what we got. Every stop included additional costs to get into the monastery, pay for the funicular in nazare, pay to see the nazare museum, and a really pricy lunch that we were not expecting. And the tour guide, tho very nice, seemed to not have ever have been to the locations so could not really describe them well.
Dear Kim, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are glad to hear you enjoyed the beauty of Nazaré and the monastery. Regarding your concerns, we strive to maintain transparency in our offerings. The "What’s Excluded" section of our tour clearly states that entry fees for the monastery, the funicular in Nazaré, and the museum "Fortness", as well as lunch costs, are not included in the tour price. We also provide detailed information about the additional costs associated with these attractions. Additionally, we want to clarify that our drivers, including Ricardo, are officially licensed tourism drivers who possess knowledge of the history of the monuments. However, they are not certified cultural interpretation guides, with art of history knowledge, which is why they do not conduct guided visits inside monuments like the Monastery of Alcobaça. Conducting such guided tours requires an official cultural interpretation license guide, which differs from our driver's qualifications. We appreciate your feedback as it helps us improve our services. Thank you for choosing our tour, and we hope to have the opportunity to serve you again in the future. Best regards, Ana
We spent the day exploring the beautiful landscape with our guide, Carlos. He was very kind and made sure we saw everything we wanted to see. He was wonderful with my daughter and helped her climb rocks and enjoy the waterfalls. I would highly recommend this tour and company to anyone visiting the Porto area.
Good Afternoon Stephanie, Thank you so much for your kindness words. The recognition and appreciation of our work besides happiness it gives us motivation to maintain or improve always our work. A big hug and kiss to Lauren. :-)
