Alle must-see attracties van de Akropolis — met nog veel meer geschiedenis! Deze tour is boeiend en langer dan andere tours, en biedt een dichtere inhoud en een meer holistisch begrip van de geschiedenis van de Akropolis en van de werkelijke waarde voor onze beschaving. Hierdoor ontstaat een betekenisvolle ervaring die voor ons als mens en als burger belangrijke lessen biedt.

Zoals in elk goed verhaal begint alles met een introductie. Het is niet makkelijk om het verhaal te vertellen van een van de meest historisch rijke steden ter wereld. Toch willen we onze gasten een breder perspectief geven. Daarom bieden we aan het begin van de tour een beknopte les over de schepping van de menselijke beschaving, en dan plaatsen we de oude Griekse beschaving — en Athene in het bijzonder — in dat kader, zodat mensen het belang en de bijdrage ervan echt kunnen begrijpen.
Het eerste monument dat we zullen zien op onze weg naar de Akropolis is het Theater van Dionysos — het eerste theater in de menselijke geschiedenis. Hier ontstonden theater en drama als praktijk en werden de vroegste toneelstukken — tragedies en komedies — voor het Atheense publiek opgevoerd. Deze toneelstukken werden geschreven door enkele van de beroemdste schrijvers aller tijden, waaronder Sophocles, Euripides en Aeschylus.
Onze volgende stop is het Odeon van Herodes Atticus, dat werd gebouwd door de weldoener en beroemde filosoof van de stad uit de 2e eeuw na Christus ter nagedachtenis aan zijn overleden vrouw.
Aangekomen bij de hoofdingang van het heiligdom van de Akropolis, zien we de Tempel van Athena Nike, gewijd aan de godin van de overwinning.
Vervolgens bewonderen we het uitzicht op de historisch belangrijke omliggende heuvels en lopen we de hoofdtrap op die naar het interieur van het heiligdom leidt, terwijl we de monumentale poort van de Akropolis in ons opnemen.
Onze voorlaatste stop is het Erechtheion, de tempel van mythen en legendes, gelegen in het centrum van het heiligdom van de Akropolis en beroemd om zijn unieke sculpturen.
Uiteindelijk zullen we eindelijk „het juweel in de kroon" bewonderen — het Parthenon. Het is een geschenk aan de beschermgodin van Athene en het is het meesterwerk van de oude Griekse architectuur uit de klassieke periode en de grootste technische prestatie van de democratische staat – het symbool van de westerse beschaving.
Na het analyseren van de Akropolis gaan we een korte pauze houden voor foto’s gedurende 20 minuten. Daarna verlaten we de archeologische vindplaats van de Akropolis en bezoeken we de Areopago-heuvel waar we de epiloog van de tour houden met het uitzicht op de oude Atheense Agora.

Harris/Haralampos was the most knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate tour guide I’ve ever had. He was so kind and enthusiastic about everything he spoke of, and left no stone unturned when explaining about the history of the Acropolis and the the various civilizations that influenced the architecture, history and culture in Athens and beyond. You can tell Harris is not only extremely wise but truly loves what he does. Anyone would be lucky to have him as a guide. 10/10 would go back.
If you want the history of the Acropolis with a very passionate tour guide, this is the tour for you. He should be a History professor. If you want just a quick and easy tour this is not the tour for you. Be ready to learn a lot.
Our visit to the Acropolis was one of the highlights of our trip, and Harris made the experience exceptional. His knowledge of Greek history and mythology was outstanding, and he shared it in such an engaging and easy-to-understand way. If you learn best by walking the same grounds as remarkable figures during significant moments in history and want to understand the social, political and religious influences of that time, this tour fulfilled it. Harris was thorough and engaging and found ways to link us all to the past. He had impactful words of empowerment as well. He kindly and patiently took photos of groups at highlight areas and gives a generous amount of time. Our tour was over 3 hours. So let him know ahead of time if you need to leave at a certain time. We were grateful for this unique experience!

This is a very detailed and informative tour, our guide Haralanpos was very knowledgeable about history and we had lots of philosophical discussions on the way around. It is quite a long tour which may not suit everyone but great fir history buffs
