Het Klooster van Agios Nektarios is het belangrijkste religieuze monument van Aegina, gelegen op 6 km van het centrum van Aegina-stad. Het klooster werd gesticht door de bisschop van Pentapolis Nektarios rond de periode 1904-1910, op verzoek van verschillende nonnen. Bisschop Nektarios vestigde zich in 1908 in Aegina, maar het klooster opereerde opnieuw in 1904 onder zijn leiding terwijl hij in de Rizarios School bleef. Hij woonde 13 jaar in het klooster en werd begraven onder een plataan buiten de kerk van het klooster.
De Tempel van Aphaia of Afea is een oude Griekse tempel gelegen in een heiligdomscomplex gewijd aan de godin Aphaia op het eiland Aegina, dat in de Saronische Golf ligt.

Stad dorp Aegina: Aegina Town is de hoofdstad en belangrijkste haven van het eiland. Het is een leuk stadje, met prachtige neoklassieke gebouwen in verschillende felle kleuren, smalle straatjes, pittoreske cafés, leuke pleintjes en een mooie haven waar kleine gekleurde vissersbootjes aanmeren. De hele stad is een explosie van kleuren, geaccentueerd door de kleurrijke pistachenoten die overal worden verkocht. Tal van restaurants om te genieten van uw lunch in de vrije tijd.

The tour was lovely and easier to navigate than expected. Meet-up instructions were clear and once we got to Aegina the bus was well-suited, if a little tight, and the a/c was pumping :) Our guide, Maria, shared lots of details about the island, its history and current economy. We also learned about the rich religious history that helped populate the island. And of course there were the pistachios -- the icing on the cake! Maria was extremely accommodating, even helping those who wanted to return on an earlier ferry exchange tickets and staying back on the island with those who did not. This trip was just the right amount of time -- not too early and allowed us to enjoy our evening back in Athens.

We were looking for an opportunity to visit the coast during our trip to Athens. The Aegina island small group day trip was perfect. The tickets were easy to purchase in advance through Trip Advisor, we took the metro from Monastiraki Station to Piraeus Station and then a short walk to a convenient meeting place at the 5 Star Cafe, where we met our guide Maria. Maria was well organized and explained the logistics of our tour very clearly, so we felt very comfortable knowing what to expect. On the tour Maria provided interesting and useful information. Our tour shuttle was comfortable, had air conditioning, easily accommodated our group of 13 adults. Maria guided us all the way, and provided further assistance for our return after the tour, from the ferry port to get back to our hotel.

It was nice to get out of Athens for the day and see a different island. The ruins were amazing (they are in really good condition, compared to others). The beach is wonderful and the pistachio tasting at the end was delicious! We loved Maria!
