We rijden bergopwaarts naar Entoto, dat ooit het vaste kamp van keizer Minilik II was.Rijdend de heuvel is er een aanzienlijke daling van de hoogte en de lucht is gevuld met de geur van de Eucalyptusbomen die het gebied bedekken. Het is een historische plaats waar keizer Menelik II verbleef en zijn paleis bouwde, toen hij uit Ankober kwam en Addis Abeba stichtte. Het Tiglachinmonument, ook wel bekend als het Dergmonument, is een gedenkteken voor Ethiopische en Cubaanse soldaten die betrokken waren bij de Ogadenoorlog. Het werd gebouwd tijdens de heerschappij van Mengistu Haile Mariam en op Churchill Avenue in Addis Abeba, Ethiopië. Het Yekatit 12 monument is een monument in Addis Abeba ter nagedachtenis aan de Yekatit 12 pogrom, een Italiaanse oorlogsmisdaad in Ethiopië. De pogrom vond plaats van 19 tot 21 februari 1937 en staat bekend als Yekatit 12 naar de startdatum in de Ethiopische kalender. This tour was very informative and educational. Both our guide, Teddy, and our driver, Yohan, were very knowledgeable, professional, personable, flexible, and patient. They consulted us on the various sites that we were interested in seeing and thus very accommodating. We loved the vehicle, as it was spotless, comfortable, and electric. Yonas and teddy were amazing. We were in Addis for a short stop and I had booked the day before the trip. From the moment I booked I had messaged them to coordinate and they already were expecting me and were able to accommodate our schedule. I had a short layover in Addis Ababa and didn’t want to just sit around the airport, so I booked a tour with Teddy and Yonas — best decision I made on the whole trip! In about four hours, they managed to show me everything important the city has to offer, and I left feeling like I’d actually experienced Addis Ababa instead of just passing through it. Both guides were incredibly personable and friendly, and it was clear they genuinely love sharing their city with visitors. They were also very knowledgeable, offering great historical and cultural context at every stop, which made the tour feel rich and meaningful rather than rushed, even with the time constraint. I’m from Canada, and this was easily one of the best layover experiences I’ve ever had. If you’re passing through Addis Ababa and have a few hours to spare, I can’t recommend Teddy and Yonas enough. Mt.Entoto is 3400m above sea level and you can see the whole city with a good panoramic view and it tells how Addis Ababa is founded.fresh breath, relaxing hiking, storytelling, religious places. Worth a visit
