De Sint-Joriskathedraal is een van de meest iconische en historisch belangrijke kerken van Addis Abeba. Gebouwd in traditionele achthoekige stijl, werd het gebouwd om de overwinning van Ethiopië op de Italianen in de Slag bij Adwa in 1896 te herdenken. De kathedraal is prachtig ingericht met levendige schilderijen en glas-in-lood kunstwerken gemaakt door gerenommeerde Ethiopische kunstenaars, waaronder Afewerk Tekle. Binnen kunnen bezoekers het kleine museum verkennen met koninklijke kronen, oude manuscripten en historische artefacten die verband houden met keizer Haile Selassie en keizerin Menen. De kathedraal blijft een actieve plaats van aanbidding en een symbool van Ethiopische trots, cultuur en orthodox christelijk erfgoed.
Merkato is een van Addis Abeba's meest levendige en fascinerende plaatsen om te bezoeken, bekend als de grootste openluchtmarkt in Afrika. Het is een levendig doolhof van duizenden winkels en kraampjes, waar bezoekers de ware energie van het Ethiopische dagelijks leven kunnen ervaren. Hier vind je alles van kruiden, koffie, traditionele kleding, handgemaakte ambachten en sieraden tot huishoudelijke artikelen en verse producten. Elke sectie is gespecialiseerd in verschillende goederen, waardoor Merkato een uniek cultureel en commercieel centrum is. Bezoekers vinden het vaak leuk om te wandelen met een lokale gids die helpt bij het navigeren op de drukke paden van de markt, verhalen deelt en verborgen ambachtelijke workshops laat zien, zoals weven, metaalbewerking en wierookproductie. De Entoto-berg steekt boven Addis Abeba uit en biedt enkele van de mooiste panoramische uitzichten over de stad. Je laatste stop is bij Tomoca Coffee, de oudste en meest iconische koffiebranderij van Ethiopië, gelegen aan het historische oude treinstation. Deze prachtig gerestaureerde site combineert het spoorwegerfgoed van Ethiopië met het rijke aroma van versgebrande Arabica-koffie. Bij Tomoca kunnen bezoekers genieten van een perfect gebrouwen macchiato, espresso of traditionele Ethiopische koffie gemaakt van hoogwaardige, lokaal geproduceerde bonen. This was an amazing tour. Our guide Mira and driver Abraham were kind, helpful, and very knowledgeable. I loved every part of it, but my favorites were the coffee house and the church. We skipped the market because it was pouring rain, but the view from Mt. Entoto was incredible. I truly enjoyed this and highly recommend.

Great tour. We had a few hours contesting flight at Addis Ababa, bird this your. Did not get to see everything due to tight connection and weather, but Oli tried to accommodate with substitutes the best. We had great time visiting the museum and the church! The coffee experience is interesting too. Very good overview about this city.

Oli is a super host and guide! Liyu tours too was very swift and kind in responding to my requests. along with the driver Daniel came over to pick me up at the transit hotel at 9am and took me around the city and sent me straight to the airport. I really enjoyed Oli’s guide throughout the tour, which educated me of the history, nature, culture and daily little things. Our half-day trip in Addis Ababa was a really wonderful experience. We did an Addis Ababa city tour as part of an over Ethiopia tour with Liyu Tours. Abe and Solomon were amazing guides and made for a really fun first day in Ethiopia and a great way to see the city. We visited the monastery, Entoto Hills, National Museum and Merkato. We also stopped for lunch at a very nice local restaurant. Abe and Solomon went out of their way to make sure all of us were having fun, and made a couple of additional stops as well for us as part of the tour. Highly recommend!

Although the guides were kind and helped us on some points, the tour was quite poor in explanation and "guidance". In the beginning, we did not have an explanation of the city or the places we passed through, the guides talked more to each other than they talked to us / introduced the city. The passage on Mount Entoto was very quick and summary..... In short, I did not feel like I had a guided tour of the city at all. Taking a taxi to the different points of the city would have cost me less for a service almost similar....

My husband and I were in Addis Ababa for a long layover and wanted to experience a little of the city and culture instead of just waiting around at the hotel. Booked this tour kind of last minute. Communication was good and got picked up right on time. Oli was our guide and Abraham was the driver. Very kind and helpful people. Oli was very knowledgeable. In 5 hours, I learned a lot and had a great experience. Make sure to being cash for the market.

The excursion was very well organised from start to finish — the pickup was punctual, everything ran on schedule without any waiting around, and our guides clearly knew the city inside and out.
