Awesome snorkeling outing and fantastic crew
What a great adventure! The boat is top notch and the crew was especially nice and helpful. Kudos to Alex, he helped my wife out when she got in the water, as it was a bit rough and she was afraid. He calmed her down and helped ensure she had a nice snorkeling experience. Captain Tahn and Callie were very special and the whole experience was worth every penny spent. I can’t say enough about how helpful and knowledgeable the crew was and would book again in a heartbeat! Don’t let the cost scare you away, it’s totally worth it!

Truly professional and helping
The team at SBC were incredible. True pros and as a guest we were treated to small groups with an experienced Marine biologist to help understand the stories of the Great Barrier Reef. Highly recommended by my wife and I.

Great small group reef experience
Fantastic crew and guides, lovely small group and yummy snacks and drinks. Cannot say enough good things about this operator and how lovely of a day we had.

Great experience with great people
Come to the great barrier and do it with these guys has been the right thing to do.
Why? Not only for the great boat and the staff which is essential for having a great experience.
Doing it with a small group of people makes you feel the experience really unique. It is totally worth it the money you pay for a live time experience.
If you can make the effort of paying a little beat more I totally recommend it.

Amazing snorkelling experience!
We had an abslolutely fabulous day snorkelling the outer GBR with the ABC Team, all very friendly, skilled and dedicated people!
Special thanks to Tahn, who was guiding our small group of 4 people and explained us a whole lot about the coral 🪸 and the fish 🐠 we saw!

Fantastic!!
I had such a great day. The team were so friendly and informative. The boat was large and comfortable, yet the group size was small by comparison to other boats. Which for me really made the difference, as I was on my own. Also it was my first time snorkeling, so was nervous. Camille was fantastic, I felt so safe, she was always close by, I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to do it again. Everything was really great, I would highly recommend ABC reef Safari.

Best Day Ever!
Matt, Jeff and Sophie gave us one of the best days! The reefs was so incredible! Would recommend to anyone looking for a less crowded experience with expert dive masters and the nicest skipper ever!

Not worth double the cost
The boat was nice. The staff were all super helpful and friendly. The food was good too. We didn’t love the mandatory “guided” format. You’re required to swim really close to several others. Our group had 7 plus the guide. There was a lot of face kicking and obnoxious close swimming, and swimming in shallow areas with everyone crowded and damaging the coral. The guide was talking in the water, so there was a lot of vertical swimming during which people were standing on and kicking coral. Definitely not worth double the cost of similar operations. We did all the top rated ones, and this was our least favorite but cost double.

We are sorry that our style of reef experience was not what you were looking for. ABC is intentionally very different from the larger reef operators. More than 99% of our guests specifically choose us because of our very low passenger numbers, high crew-to-guest ratio and fully guided in-water experience.
Our trips are sold and described as guided reef experiences rather than a “swim off and explore independently” format. For guests who prefer complete independence in the water, a larger vessel offering unguided snorkelling may indeed be a better fit.
We are particularly concerned by your comments regarding contact with coral. Protecting the reef is extremely important to us. Guests are briefed to maintain appropriate buoyancy and avoid touching or kicking coral, and our guides continually reinforce this throughout the day. Unfortunately, in-water behaviour also requires guests to listen to and follow those instructions.
We are disappointed that the experience did not suit your personal preference, but we do feel it is important for future travellers to understand that the guided, small-group format described in your review is actually a fundamental part of the ABC experience and one of the principal reasons our guests choose to travel with us.
