We leren twee van de belangrijkste musea in de stad kennen in één enkele tour. Terwijl we lopen, gaan we ook het bos in en leren de geschiedenis ervan. De gids is een historicus, een expert op dit gebied en een groot kenner van het Chapultepec-bos.

Het ontmoetingspunt bevindt zich voor het Museum voor Moderne Kunst, gebouwd door dezelfde architect als het Nationaal Museum voor Antropologie.
We gaan naar het kasteel waar we verschillende panoramische uitzichten over de stad en het bos kunnen waarderen. De gids zal ons de geschiedenis vertellen van dit gebouw dat al sinds de 18e eeuw bestaat, we zullen de kamers bezoeken om stukken uit verschillende perioden van de Mexicaanse geschiedenis te observeren, het originele meubilair uit de 19e eeuw, de prachtige decoratie met tuinen, fonteinen, marmer trappen en glas-in-loodramen.
Op weg naar het Nationaal Museum voor Antropologie zullen we langs het meer van Chapultepec komen, een recreatiegebied met bootverhuur. Aan een van de oevers is het mogelijk om La Casa del Lago te zien, een 19e-eeuws herenhuis. Onderweg is er verkoop van water, snacks, rustbanken, enz.
We zullen een van de belangrijkste musea in Mexico en Latijns-Amerika binnengaan, waar enkele van de belangrijkste archeologische stukken van pre-Spaanse culturen bewaard zijn gebleven. De gids neemt ons mee door de museumzalen om de belangrijkste elementen te waarderen en een algemeen overzicht te krijgen van deze oude beschavingen. We zullen stukken leren kennen zoals de Steen van de Zon (Azteekse kalender), de Atlantische Oceaan van Tula, de godin van het water Chalchiuhtlicue, de Acrobat, het begrafenismasker van Pakal; onder andere objecten zoals sieraden, keramiek, graven, sculpturen, offergaven, het balspel en nog veel meer.

Our tour guide, Brenda, did an excellent job of explaining to us the history and the historical significance of the Castle of Chapultepec. Not only was she knowledgeable, but she able to share that knowledge in a way that was easy for all to understand. Afterwards, we took lunch before crossing the street to the Museum of Anthropology. Again Brenda’s knowledge of Pre-Hispanic history made the visit that much more enjoyable. If you are considering visiting either location, a guide is a must. Otherwise, you’re just going for a walk.

I realized that just going there myself I wouldn't have had the same learning experience. He brought a lot of context and life to the paintings and statues at the museum.

Ricardo was a brilliant tour guide, not to mention a trained historian. He brought Chapultepec castle and the Anthropology museum to life for our small group.
