45 - Hoogtepuntentour van de Franse wijk in New Orleans

Als je maar een korte tijd hebt, maar je wilt zoveel mogelijk van de Franse wijk zien, dan is dit jouw tour! We gaan in een snel tempo, maar je kunt al die foto's maken! We zullen alle beroemde bezienswaardigheden van de Franse wijk in 45 minuten zien. Er is niet zoveel verhalen of geschiedenis als tijdens een typische twee uur durende tour, maar je gids zal een samenvatting van de tour geven en een lijst met aanbevolen manieren om nog meer van New Orleans te genieten.

Begin je wervelende tour in het hart van de stad, Jackson Square. Vanaf hier zie je de St. Louis Cathedral, twee Louisiana State Museums, de iconische Pontalba Apartments en het standbeeld van Andrew Jackson (natuurlijk). Je gids geeft je een korte geschiedenis van New Orleans, en dan kun je gaan!
Vervolg Chartres Street voor enkele voorbeelden van iconische New Orleans-architectuur en geweldige winkels en restaurants, waaronder een huis dat was voorbereid als toevluchtsoord voor Napoleon (spoiler: hij liet ons opstaan), een museum gewijd aan de vreemdere aspecten van het 19e-eeuwse farmaceutische beroep ( bloedzuigers!) en het Hooggerechtshof van de staat Louisiana.
Zoom in op Bourbon Street voor een voorproefje (niet letterlijk - dat zou vies zijn) van het centrum van de nachtelijke feestvreugde in New Orleans, inclusief de meest beruchte muziekzalen en drankgelegenheden. Maak je geen zorgen, overdag is het meestal niet zo schokkend.
Royal Street heeft de mooiste voorbeelden van herenhuizen in de Franse wijk met ijzeren balkons, straatartiesten en kunstgalerijen. Dit is de straat van je dromen in New Orleans!
Pauzeer lang genoeg om een paar foto's te maken van het 'meest spookachtige' huis van New Orleans: de voormalige residentie van de 19e-eeuwse seriemoordenaar Madame Delphine LaLaurie. Misschien krijg je er wel de rillingen van!
Hier staat het oudste gebouw in de regio, oorspronkelijk gebouwd voor de nonnen van de Ursulinen die in 1727 naar New Orleans kwamen om wat aanzien aan de stad toe te voegen - veel succes, arme nonnen!
Doe ideeën op voor toekomstig snacken en winkelen op de French Market, de openluchtmarkt vlakbij de rivier waar New Orleans al eeuwenlang winkelt en eet. Ontdek de alligatorhoofden, voodoo-poppen, pralines, pannenkoeken, borrelglaasjes en oesters waar je naar op zoek was! Maar je zult later terug moeten komen - we hebben nog meer te zien!
Ervaar een beetje van het "grit" van de Franse wijk in Decatur Street, waar interessante winkels, visrestaurants, cafés, snoepwinkels, overal muziek en een gouden standbeeld van Jeanne d'Arc te vinden zijn! Volg de poedersuiker naar het wereldberoemde Cafe Du Monde, de beste plek om van café au lait te genieten terwijl je beignets eet en mensen kijkt en luistert naar live jazz. Als je oma hier kwam, deed ze het - jij moet het ook doen! Nog honger? We zijn bijna klaar!
Dit park heet nu Oscar Dunn Park (maar Google heeft de memo niet ontvangen) en het is de perfecte plek om je supersnelle tour door de Franse wijk te beëindigen, met uitzicht op Jackson Square en de rivier de Mississippi. Je hebt die beignets verdiend en je bent ZO veel slimmer en fitter dan een uur geleden!

Highly recommend this tour for a quick and informative introduction to the French Quarter. Libby was a fantastic guide, so knowledgeable and engaging. We had a wonderful time and came away much more informed and fascinated with New Orleans history and culture.

Just go book the tour already - you will not be disappointed! Libby was a fantastic guide with so much knowledge of New Orleans and its colorful and interesting history. She tailored our tour to the interests of our group and made sure to answer every question we had. We had a group of high school aged girls and she delivered the information in a way that hooked them from the beginning. I hope we can come back and do another one soon!!

Libby was amazing and worked with our schedule when our flight was cancelled after a seven hour delay. She was understanding and accommodating and we couldn't be more grateful!
