Ons avontuur begint bij Bowling Green, waar de verhalen van zowel New York City als het land vorm krijgen. Vanaf dit historische startpunt wandelen we door het hart van Downtown Manhattan en verkennen we bezienswaardigheden zoals Wall Street, Federal Hall en Trinity Church. We gaan verder naar het World Trade Center-complex, pauzeren om de krachtige geschiedenis te proeven, voordat we langs St. Paul's Chapel en het stijgende Woolworth Building komen. Van daaruit stappen we in de rust van City Hall Park, een groene ruimte omringd door eeuwen van burgerlijke geschiedenis. De tour verschuift vervolgens naar de levendige straten van Chinatown en Little Italy, waar immigratiegolven de cultuur, het eten en de buurten hebben gevormd die Lower Manhattan vandaag de dag definiëren. Bowling Green Park, gelegen in het hart van Lower Manhattan, onderscheidt zich als het oudste openbare park van New York City. Deze historische groene ruimte, opgericht in 1733, is getuige geweest van eeuwenlange transformatie en heeft een belangrijke rol gespeeld in de geschiedenis van de stad. Oorspronkelijk was het een bowlingbaan (vandaar de naam), maar het park deed later dienst als veemarkt en militair paradeterrein tijdens de Amerikaanse Onafhankelijkheidsoorlog.
Het Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House, gelegen naast Bowling Green Park in Lower Manhattan, is een historisch architectonisch meesterwerk dat dient als een prominent symbool van het maritieme erfgoed en de economische betekenis van New York City.
Wall Street, gelegen in het financiële district van Lower Manhattan, staat bekend als het epicentrum van de Amerikaanse financiën en handel. De geschiedenis gaat terug tot de 17e eeuw, toen het diende als de noordelijke grens van de Nederlandse nederzetting Nieuw-Amsterdam.
Trinity Church, gelegen aan de westkant van Wall Street in Lower Manhattan, is een historisch monument dat een prominente plaats inneemt in zowel de religieuze als de architectonische geschiedenis van New York City. Trinity Church, opgericht in 1697, is een van de oudste gemeenten in de Verenigde Staten en heeft een belangrijke rol gespeeld in de ontwikkeling van de stad.
De World Trade Center Memorial Fountains, ook wel bekend als het National September 11 Memorial & Museum, is een aangrijpend eerbetoon aan de levens die verloren zijn gegaan tijdens de tragische gebeurtenissen van 11 september 2001. Gelegen in Lower Manhattan, op de plek van het voormalige World Trade Center Center Twin Towers, het monument beschikt over twee enorme reflecterende poelen die zich binnen de voetafdrukken van de oorspronkelijke torens bevinden.
Het African Burial Ground National Monument in New York City is een belangrijke historische plek die de nagedachtenis eert van tot slaaf gemaakte en vrije Afrikanen die in de 17e en 18e eeuw in Lower Manhattan begraven lagen.

This was a really enjoyable walking tour covering so much interesting history about Lower Manhattan. Our guide, David, was fantastic. We would highly recommend this.
What a great way to learn about Lower Manhattan. Annebelle is a great guide. Highly recommend. Definitely learned something we did not know. She showed us a couple of cool spots we would have never seen on our own for sure!
This tour was wonderful. It covered the early history of NYC, the financial district, the municipal areas and then Chinatown and Little Italy. Our tour leader Nicky was absolutely fabulous - full of information and no question was too much trouble.
Had an amazing afternoon on the downtown walking tour. Dave was an incredible guide, and we enjoyed our conversations throughout the tour talking about all of the history that downtown and nyc has to share.
This was easily my favourite Walking tour to date. ( I have done quite few) The content was interesting and the Annabel, our guide, was extremely knowledgable and had an ease of passing along all of that information. Gracious and Eloquent from the 1st moment we chatted. Not only was the tour itself great, there was also a lovely follow up email with details about the many stops along our walk. David Turk was our excellent guide. He was kind and considerate, especially to the old people with him. It was definitely worth the $85. We had our own private tour for three whole hours. We learned so much about Lower Manhattan. I would definitely recommend David for tours. We are looking forward to a future tour with David.
We had a wonderful tour of historic downtown NYC. Annabel was very informative and personalized the tour to our interests. It was nice to have such a small group and customized tour. Annabel even followed up with additional information and links to compliment and expand on our discussions during the tour.
We went today on the High Land Park tour with the Greenwich Village food tour. Both the tour and food tasting were great. Our guide, Claire was outstanding, very knowledgeable and quickly picking up on things we were particularly interested in. She really gave the personal touch and flowed up with an email containing other interesting places and facts to follow up on. Loved the intimate size of the Manhattan Walking tours!!! Highly recommended.
We took the Downtown Historic Walking Tour with David and the Greenwich Village food tour with Jonathan. We did the food tour first, on a cold and rainy afternoon. Jonathan was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history he shared with us, which we really appreciated. He was also very personable, and even walked us to the subway, pointing us in the right direction. We enjoyed ourselves, and truly learned a lot! Being a food tour though, we felt that the history took center stage, fine, since we love learning about the history of a place, but that would be my critique. The history didn’t always align or tie in with food, which I guess is fine, just think of it as a history tour, plus yummy food! The next day we did the walking tour with David, in the financial district. This was the highlight of our entire trip! We learned a great deal, and loved how knowledgeable David was! It ended up just the three of us, and he too was personable, knowledgeable and a great story teller! Don’t miss a chance to take a tour with Manhattan Walking tours!! We will definitely recommend to our friends, and reach out to both gentlemen when we return to the fabulous NYC! Thank you for all the great knowledge and memories!!
