Calle Ocho vertraagt voor niemand, en deze tour leunt er recht in. In twee uur tijd eet, nipt en wandelt u door de bezienswaardigheden, smaken en levende geschiedenis die Little Havana tot de ware ziel van Miami maken. Het begint bij het Varkensbaai Monument, waar de verhalen van de Cubaanse migratie uit de jaren zestig de toon zetten. Van daaruit ontvouwt zich de wijk: kleurrijke Haansculpturen, het José Martí Memorial, de Kaart van Cuba en Domino Park, waar Celia Cruz en Gloria Estefan hun plaats hebben op de Walk of Fame. Dan neemt het eten het over. Vers Guarapo-sap in een buurtfruteria, schilferige guavepastelitos en hamkroketten van een familiebakkerij, een pittige Cubaanse koffie, knapperige mariquita's en een perfect geperst Cubaans broodje. De tour sluit af met het bekijken van meester sigarenrollers aan het werk, een ambacht dat net zo goed deel uitmaakt van Calle Ocho als het eten zelf. Our tour guide, Cesar, was amazing! He was deeply knowledgeable about Cuba, telling us the history all the way back to the 19th century. All the places from food to cigars to ice cream were fantastic. It was amazing to hear Cesar’s experience immigrating from Cuba and to where he is today.

Our 2 hour Express Tour of Little Havana was the highlight of our trip to Miami. This vibrant neighborhood, full of history and Cuban culture was brought to life by our tour guide, Cesar. Cesar was fantastic! He started the tour by telling us the history of Cuba and the struggles his people. He shared his personal story of leaving Cuba at 19 to make a better life for himself in the United States. He is an amazing man. We then walked the main street of Little Havana and stopped in several shops to sample baked goods, coffee, sugar cane water and ice cream. We went to a cigar shop and watched a woman roll a cigar. We went to the famous Ball and Chain restaurant and bar to see the original interior. Along the way we'd encounter locals who Cesar knew and we'd learn about their stories. This tour with Cesar is a must while in Miami!

Our guide, Kayan, was absolutely perfect. He's informative and funny. We can tell he has done tons of reseach and actually know what he's talking about. He definitely made this tour a wonderful experience. We've been on tasting tours before. The tasting sample is normally the tiniest amout but not on this one. More than expected considering it's just a "sample". The quality of these tastings did not disappoint either. Delicious!
