Una visita all'eccellente museo di Sanctuary Wood per vedere la sua incredibile collezione di rare fotografie originali in 3D del campo di battaglia, un'enorme collezione di manufatti della Grande Guerra, armi e uniformi e per camminare attraverso il suo ampio sistema di trincee britanniche conservato. Chiuso il lunedì ma visitiamo trincee alternative
Dopo aver guidato attraverso i campi di battaglia di Passchendaele arriviamo al bellissimo cimitero di Tyne Cot, con le sue 12.000 tombe è il più grande cimitero di tombe di guerra britannico e del Commonwealth al mondo. Sul retro del cimitero si trova il muro commemorativo Tyne Cot che contiene i nomi di altri 35000 soldati britannici e del Commonwealth che sono elencati come dispersi senza tomba identificata. Un bellissimo luogo di riflessione e di ricordo.
L'iconico monumento e giardino canadese "The Brooding Soldier" commemora i soldati canadesi persi negli attacchi con gas del 1915. Qui impareremo degli attacchi di gas del 1915 e della storia della guerra chimica nel Saliente di Ypres. Probabilmente il memoriale più iconico del Saliente di Ypres incastonato in un bellissimo giardino commemorativo.
Il secondo cimitero tedesco più grande della zona, con 44.000 sepolture Langemark ha un'atmosfera molto diversa dai cimiteri britannici e del Commonwealth. Il suo design è stato fortemente influenzato dai nazisti della seconda guerra mondiale, alcuni dei quali sono in evidenza oggi . La fossa comune al centro del cimitero è di proporzioni impressionanti. Questo sito è uno dei siti 'must see' nella zona. Prima del vostro tour perché non acquistare una copia del libro, Studentenfriedhof to Soldatenfriedhof, scritto in inglese vi dà un'affascinante visione della storia del cimitero ed è il via alla storia del cimitero.
Una visita ai bunker della stazione di vestizione conservati per conoscere il processo di evacuazione ferito e il memoriale al tenente colonnello John McCrae per ascoltare la storia del poema In Flanders Fields e la sua influenza sulla memoria di oggi. Visiteremo anche la tomba di Valentine Strudwick ucciso all'età di 15 anni e impareremo la storia dei soldati minorenni nella Grande Guerra.
Una visita al museo Passchendaele di classe mondiale, tra cui trincee inglesi e tedesche replica, esperienza di duplicazione sotterranea e la sua nuova sala immersiva Battaglia di Passchendaele. Il museo si concentra sulla battaglia di Passchendaele e sui suoi combattenti. Da sempre una tappa popolare del tour, il museo è in fase di aggiornamento pronto per il 2025. Una visita favolosa.
Chiamata 'The Murder Hill' dai soldati britannici camminiamo sul suo sacro campo di battaglia preservato, bunker e crateri minerari. Hill 60 è oggi una tomba di guerra ufficiale poiché i resti di molti soldati e tunneller giacevano nascosti sotto la sua superficie. La storia dei terribili combattimenti alla Collina 60 è leggendaria, con il suo terribile tasso di vittime e gli uomini sul campo di battaglia molto compatti erano spesso separati qui solo da pochi metri di terreno. Discutiamo qui i combattimenti del 1915 e 1917, la guerra sotterranea e anche i combattimenti in collina ancora una volta nella seconda guerra mondiale
La storia della battaglia di Messines Ridge e della guerra nel sottosuolo nel sito del maestoso cratere Caterpillar. Delle 19 massicce mine sotterranee fatte esplodere dai galleristi britannici e del Commonwealth il 7 giugno 1917, il Caterpillar Crater è la meglio conservata di tutte. Mozzafiato per dimensioni e bellezza è in completo contrasto con gli orrori che vi si sono verificati durante la Grande Guerra.

Roger was an excellent guide with an astonishing knowledge of the area. I cant recommend this tour highly enough - definitely do the full day. If you have any family connections let him know as he adjusted the itinerary for those of us who did.
Yesterday we spent 8 wonderful hours with Roger on the Ypres battlefields and Passhendale tour. We never looked at our watch once! Roger held our attention the whole day with his wealth of knowledge and interesting stories. Roger tailored the tour to the nationalités onboard the coach(New Zealand and Canadian-6 on our tour in total) but we also visited all the major sites. Rogers demenour allowed us to ask questions and feel comfortable. Had a lovely lunch halfway through. Some of the sites we visited included Tyne Cot cemetery, Langemark cemetery, Hill 60, Essex Farm, 2 very good muséums, walking the actual trenches at two sites, the brooding soldier, the NZ mémorial and many more. All in all a very compréhensive tour which was worth every cent paid. There is no way you could do this all by yourself and get the complete picture and in depth knowledge that Roger shares. Roger knew all the dates, the battles, where the front line was at all Times of the advancing armies. Roger deliveries this all in a very fair and respectful manner towards both sides. Roger's tour was amazing! His knowledge about the war is encyclopedic and his particular expertise in the war dead was a unique perspective. One of the families on the tour had recently been told her WWI ancestor's body had been identified after 100+ years. Working with his contacts Roger pinpointed the likely spot where the body had initially fallen and drove us there across a field for a special moment for the family - and all of us.
We loved learning all about WWl and what the western front/Salient soldiers went through. Horrible war- Roger also knew all about the writer of Flanders Field poem, the Last Post and more. Yrpes was a VERY pleasant surprise !
Thank you, Roger for a lovely WW1 tour. For anyone looking to book an English speaking tour by a British man who lives in Belgium, this is an excellent tour. Suitable for families or individuals. Roger went that extra mile to cater for our needs to find names of graves. 5 🌟.
Roger was very knowledgeable and gave us a real insight into the Strategy of the Battles. He was very entertaining as well and answered all questions with enthusiasm. We would certainly recommend Roger!
I had the pleasure of doing a tour with Mr Steward and from start to finish, it was amazing. His local knowledge of the batttlefields and menorials are beyond impressive. We visited cemetaries, trenches, and monuments. I cannot emphasize how incredible this tour was. His knowledge and passion for the history of this sacred area made this an experience I will never forget.
Very enjoyable day on this tour. January saw some of the museums closed but we still made the best of our time and had a great day touring many of the WW1 sites around Ypres. One nice touch was they I was contacted in advance to let me know that the museums were closed with the offer to cancel. Gained lots of insights in to the battles around Ypres from a very knowledgeable guide.
