Passeggiando lungo strade acciottolate e sentieri lungo il fiume, vedrai alcune delle migliori architetture del mondo e incontrerai storie avvincenti di re, principi vescovi e gente del posto che hanno reso Durham una delle città più affascinanti e storicamente significative dell'Inghilterra. Il nostro tour storico ti porterà dal vivace cuore della piazza del mercato al castello, patrimonio mondiale dell'UNESCO.

Itinerario
Nel nostro punto d'incontro nella storica Piazza del Mercato, nel cuore della città, vedremo il municipio e la corporazione del XIX secolo, la chiesa di San Nicola e le statue che commemorano la storia della città. Impareremo a conoscere le figure che hanno contribuito a plasmare la città e la contea. Da qui, faremo una breve passeggiata fino al Framwellgate Bridge.
Il più antico dei ponti della città con una magnifica vista sul castello e sulla cattedrale di Durham. Qui esploreremo la storia del castello e dei famosi principi vescovi di Durham prima di dirigerci lungo la pittoresca passeggiata lungo il fiume fino alla nostra prossima fermata. La passeggiata da qui alla fermata successiva impiegherà circa 5 minuti.
Lungo la strada per il ponte Prebends esploreremo i mulini e le sponde del fiume della città prima di ammirare viste spettacolari della cattedrale dal ponte Prebends.
Sulla strada per il South Bailey, incontreremo le mura della città medievale ed esploreremo la storica rivalità con gli scozzesi prima di dirigerci verso il Bailey, che è la sede della Durham University.
Ora affiliata al St. John's College, St. Mary the Less, ha alcuni collegamenti affascinanti con le leggende di Durham. Esploriamo le loro storie qui mentre ammiriamo l'interessante architettura del Bailey.
Arriviamo al lato orientale della cattedrale ed esploriamo la storia altomedievale e le storie di St. Cuthbert, oltre a conoscere alcuni dei college della Durham University. La passeggiata lungo The Bailey ci porta in cima a Saddler Street.
Entriamo nel cuore del sito Patrimonio dell'Umanità dell'UNESCO su Palace Green ed esploriamo i vari edifici intorno a Palace Green che sono ricchi di storia. Qui parleremo delle battaglie, delle tragedie e dei miracoli che caratterizzano pesantemente la storia di Durham. Il culmine della ci porta alle porte della Cattedrale di Durham.

Great experience and history lesson. We really enjoyed it.
Amazing tour guide & tour which takes you back to 1066 and all that history from then on through to now ! Easy 90 minutes tour in historic buildings and very witty at times , a must if you’re in Durham . Also lots of local tips on food/ drink etc . Thank you Peter for a great tour , Gary & Pat .
Wonderful historical tour of beautiful Durham. Pete, our guide, was warm, friendly, extremely knowledgeable and explained lots of complex history in a very easy to understand way. Saw parts of Durham we would never have seen. Highly recommend.
This guided tour gave us a really interesting and entertaining introduction to the city of Durham. There was a good balance of history and quirky anecdotes! Peter has a warm, friendly manner, full of enthusiasm and knowledge . He also gave us a recommendation for a restaurant and a good pub -both of which we visited and were not disappointed!
Guide was very well informed and certainly knew his geography. We found him easy to talk to and he led our group through places we would not have seen. He gave us useful advice on where else we could go after the tour.
Peter was right on time and went ahead with the tour even though it was just me. He was very personable and that added to his sharing of the history and tales about Durham. He was quite knowledgeable about all aspects of Durham both historical and current and do I felt I really got to quickly know the key facets about the city and where I wanted to spend more time. I appreciated his leading the way around the city as Ud never been there before and again I certainly got more appreciation for Durham with his background than if I’d just wandered around on my own!!
